Tommy POV

Tommy took a deep breath, stroking the paintbrush against the canvas for the final time. He smiled, pleased with the final product. He turned the painting towards the customer, hoping for approval. "How's that?"

The woman beamed, amazed by the talent of the young boy. "That's wonderful young man! You've certainly got a talent!"

Tommy smiled gratefully, "Thank you madam." He handed her the painting, receiving coins in payment. She waved goodbye to him before disappearing into the street.

Tommy sighed, fishing through the coins and counting them. Just enough for a meal. He smiled, enough for dinner tonight. He was going to live to see another day.

Swiftly, he cleaned up his supplies, putting all the used brushes and old bottles into his bag. It was worn, with multiple rips and tears, but it did its job. Swinging his bag over his shoulder, he headed back towards home. The quicker, the better.

Running through the alley luck didn't seem to be on his side. As soon as the street came into sight he was thrown to the floor. He reached out his hands, hoping to protect his precious paint. With no success, all his paint splattered all over the ground, making his eyes fill with tears. How was he going to live now?

"Awww look at the little freak! Crying over his stupid paint!" a voice cackled.

He quickly wiped the tears out of his eyes, knowing it was better to show no weakness. "Leave me alone." he whispered, wanting nothing more than to run. Unfortunately he was surrounded by a group of five older boys, who were not just about to let him leave.

"Looks like the freak missed us!" another laughed, delivering a kick to Tommy's face.

The blonde curled in on himself, attempting to protect himself and his paint. The bullies smirked, grabbing his bag. "Please don't!" he begged, knowing that paint was so expensive. He wouldn't be able to replace it.

Each bully grabbed a bottle of paint, throwing it against the wall as Tommy began to cry. How was he going to live? How would he make any money?

The bullies went back to beating him, covering him in painful bruises. Tommy laid there, praying it would be over soon. He squeezed his eyes shut, still trying to protect himself. Shouts came from behind him and Tommy finally caught a break.

The sound of fighting made Tommy open his eyes. He gasped as he watched two older boys beating up the bullies. Who were these people? What did they want from him? Why were they defending him?

The taller one lifted one of the bullies up, posed to punch him again. The boy whimpered, pleading for his life. "Get out of here." he growled, making the bullies scatter.

Tommy's eyes were wide with panic and fear as the two boys turned to him.

Were they coming after him next?
