Tommy POV
Tommy turned towards the new customer, surprised to see he was out of breath. He looked as though he had run a marathon. The man moved behind one of the bookshelves, seemingly hiding from something.
Tommy barely had time to wonder what it was before a group of people crashed through the doors. Sparing a glance at the hiding man, he moved towards the group.
"Can I help you?" he asked politely, knowing exactly what they were looking for.
"Where is he?"
"We saw him come in here!"
"I don't see him..."
"Can I help you?" Tommy repeated, taking a deep breath.
The group looked at him, as if they were just realizing he was there. One of them spoke up, smirking, "We're looking for the author."
"What author?"
"Philza Minecraft of course!" another exclaimed, rolling their eyes.
Tommy paused. He could feel the man's stare burning his back. He could tell the man was ready to run if he needed to. Tommy turned to the group, frowning. "I haven't seen any famous author in here, sorry. But-"
"Are you sure kid?"
Tommy folded his arms, glaring at the customer. "I'm positive. I think I would have known if the most famous author in the world came into my store." The word sounded different coming from the strangers compared to Techno and Wilbur. It sounded disrespectful and he hated it.
"We'll be going then."
The group filed out of the store, muttering to each other. Tommy had never been so happy to see customers go. No amount of money was worth that much disrespect.
Tommy waited until the group was out of sight before finally turning to the new customer. "The coast is clear."
The blonde stood up, staring at Tommy. "Thanks... uh?"
"Tommy." The teen said confidently, feeling Techno and Wilbur come behind him.
"Tommy." the man smiled warmly, adjusting his bucket hat. "Thank you Tommy."
"You're really him..." Techno gasped, approaching the figure. "Philza Minecraft." His eyes were wide with amazement, as if he couldn't believe what he was saying.
Tommy couldn't help but smirk, "He's not a ghost Tech. He's as real as he looks."
"Tommy you don't understand." Techno glared at him, making Wilbur laugh. "He's the Philza Minecraft."
"I understand completely." the blonde rolled his eyes. "I imagine he's been chased around all day. I'm sure he doesn't want to be idolized anymore."
Phil chuckled, "Please, just call me Phil."
"Nice to meet you Phil." Wilbur grinned, holding his hand out for Phil to shake, which he did. "I'm Wilbur."
"He's famous too!" Tommy piped up.
"Just because you like my music, doesn't mean I'm famous Toms." the brunette turned him.
But Tommy wouldn't take that answer. "To me your famous. And my opinion is the only one that matters." he said proudly.
"Are you three related?" Phil asked, looking between the three in confusion.
The three exchanged looks before bursting out into laughter.
"Would you believe me if I told you we just met today?" Tommy offered, grinning from ear to ear. He couldn't help but feel a little pride in the idea of seeing the three as his family. They certainly already acted like it.
Phil studied him skeptically, trying to decide if he really was telling the truth.
"You should believe him, he's actually not lying." Wilbur put in, amused. "I just met him less than an hour ago."
Tommy glanced towards Techno, expecting him to add something. The pinkette was staring at the man, as though he were still trying to decide if it was really him. "Can I... can I get your autograph?"
Phil grinned, much to Tommy's surprise. The man took a small paper out of his pocket and handed it to Techno, his signature evidently on it. The pinkette's face lit up, more than Tommy thought possible.
Phil turned to Tommy, hesitating at his words. "I'm sorry to hear about Laura. She was a wonderful person." The teen was doubtful, this was not the first time someone had said this. But it would be the first time someone meant it. Tommy searched his face, looking for any sign of mockery. He was surprised to find none. The man truly meant what he said.
Tommy closed his eyes, trying not to get lost in his emotions. "Y-you... knew her?"
Phil nodded, a sad smile on his face. "She was an old friend of my wife's. I met her a few times, but I was never that close to her. Her shop was one of the reasons I came this way. I wanted to know what had become of it. I was quite surprised when I saw it still open... I didn't know she had a son."
Tommy shifted uncomfortably, suddenly finding his shoes very interesting. "I'm not here son... not by blood at least," he whispered, looking down in shame. "I-" he paused, taking a deep breath. Even after all these years, it was still difficult to talk about.
Techno tried to give the boy support by placing a comforting hand on his shoulder, but quickly stopped himself when he saw the flinch. Sensing the boy's discomfort, he murmured, "You don't have to talk about it if it makes you uncomfortable." His eyes shone with worry, mirroring Wilbur's.
The blonde shook his head, ignoring the shakiness in his body. "I don't want to hide it. I want to tell someone..." Looking up at the three, he took a deep breath, allowing the words to flow off his tongue. "I want to trust you guys."
The three nodded, patiently waiting for him to continue. They already felt like they had known him their entire lives. Even if they didn't know it, each of them had made a promise to protect the kid from the world.
What they didn't know was that he had already seen the dark world.
More of it than they could have possibly imagined.
