Wilbur POV
Wilbur sighed, rubbing the exhaustion from his eyes. He looked around once more, searching the land for any sign of a town.
Techno stood beside him, glancing at his younger brother with concern. "Wil? You alright?"
Wilbur nodded, standing up straighter as if to prove the point. "I'm fine."
The pinkette didn't buy it for a second, shaking his head. "We can cut our journey short-"
"No!" the brunette snapped. "This is the closest we've been to finding him in months! I'm not getting rid of that chance... not when we're this close."
Techno nodded in understanding. "Just tell me if you need a break, okay?"
Wilbur shrugged it off, beginning to walk in the direction they had been heading. They walked in silence for a moment before Wilbur spoke what was on his brain. "Do you think he hates us?"
Techno looked at him, his eyes wide at the question. He took a deep breath, keeping his voice monotone. "He was angry... he did what he thought was right."
"But do you think he hates us?" Wilbur repeated, shoving his hands into his pockets.
Techno paused, thinking for a moment. Honesty felt cruel, but it couldn't be crueler than lying. "I don't know..."
Wilbur skidded to a stop, a burning smell filling the air. "Smoke?" he said, glancing at Techno in confusion.
The brothers raced through the forest, immediately spotting the source. Not far off, there was a village, burning in the light. Pillagers came from every direction, shouting in gibberish. Villagers ran around, panic fueling them.
Techno and Wilbur stopped, both nodding before running into help. They didn't care about their lives, they cared about everyone else's.
Before they could even start to help, a figure appeared, slashing through pillager after pillager. A cloak hid his face, waving in the wind as he moved. The figure froze at the sight of them, shaking his head before continuing to help the villagers.
It didn't take long for them to drive out the rest of the pillagers, deeming the village safe for the time being. Immediately the figure set to putting out the fires and making sure everyone was okay. Not a word passed his lips as he worked.
"Who is that-" Wilbur began, when suddenly another figure raced towards the man.
"TOMMY!" the figure looked towards the boy, being tackled in a hug before he could even think.
Wilbur's eyes widened. Was it really him?
Tommy hugged the boy, resting his chin on the boy's forehead. He closed his eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath. He leaned forward, whispering something in the brunette's ear. The boy's eyes widened and he snapped towards Wilbur, with Techno standing behind him.
"No..." the boy began to mutter, panic taking over his senses. "They'll take you away! I won't let them! I won't!" he clung to Tommy, trying to shield him with his body despite him being smaller than the blonde.
Tommy sighed, linking his hand with Tubbo's. "I won't let them take me from you Tubs. I promise."
The blonde moved towards the older boys, whispering to Tubbo to stay. He kept his eyes glued to the ground, obviously nervous.
"What are you doing here?" he spoke, meeting their eyes.
Wilbur looked at him, sadness in his eyes. "We're here to take you home."
Tommy rolled his eyes, shaking his head. "I am home." He drummed his fingers against his leg, shifting from foot to foot. "I'm not going with you."
"Why not?! We all miss you so much!" Wilbur shouted, stepping forward. "We're your family! You can't just neglect us and pretend like we don't exist!"
"You're not my family." Tommy glared, his blue eyes cold. "You lost that the moment you tried to separate me from Tubbo. He's my real family. Not you." He shook his head, turning on his heel. "And that's not my fault."
"You're the prince!"
"Oh bullshit!" the blonde snapped. "I've never been a prince! No kingdom needs three princes and especially not yours." He laughed half heartily. "I doubt the people even knew my name before I went missing. I'm not special! I realized that a long time ago. I'm not the eldest, I don't have the warm caring touch Phil has. I'm not a genius, I don't fight better than everyone in the kingdom like Techno does. I'm not creative, I can't write or sing for shit, like you can. I have nothing!" Tears escaped his eyes, but he was quick to wipe them away. "All I ever did was cause problems. So I found someone who made me something. And Tubbo does that."
Wilbur was about to yell back, but Techno stopped him, putting a hand on his shoulder. The pinkette stepped forward, sighing. "Are you happy Toms?"
Tommy didn't hesitate to nod. "Happier than I've ever been."
Techno nodded, his face blank. "Then you are home."
"Techno what are you doing?!" Wilbur shouted, not believing what he was hearing. Wasn't Techno on his side? Didn't he want Tommy home?
Techno met his eyes. "We'll tell Dad we never found him and we'll call off the search. Come on Wilbur." he grabbed the brunette's arm, beginning to drag him away from the village.
"Techno!"
"He's happy Wilbur!" Techno snapped. "And if he's happy and safe then he's okay Wilbur. Don't you want him to be happy?"
"Well yes, but-"
"You need to let him go Wilbur."
