One Moment Can Change Everything (SBI) (4/4)

Wilbur POV

Two weeks. That's how long it had been since he saw Tommy's blue eyes. Wilbur didn't think he could miss the blonde more. His voice, his smile, his laughter. He missed it all.

They were advised to take him off the ventilator, to just let him go in peace. And those were the moments he hated the most. The moments where he was forced to look into the future and not see his brother. The moments where he wouldn't have a little brother, he wouldn't have his Tommy.

Wilbur refused to even think about that. He chose to focus on the present, and the hopeful future. Between Techno and Wilbur they had enough hope for the three of them. Especially when their father was lacking in it.

Wilbur refused to leave Tommy's side for anything, and even when he did, Techno was there to take his place.

"Do you think we'll ever see his eyes again?" Techno suddenly spoke up, his eyes not leaving Tommy.

"Of course we will." Wilbur said firmly, tightening his grip on Tommy's hand. "This is Tommy we're talking about. He's too stubborn to follow what the doctors speculate."

The pinkette nodded, glancing towards the brunette. "How's your wrist doing?"

The younger shrugged, turning back to Tommy. "It's fine I guess."

"I can-"

"I said it was fine Techno. We need to focus on Tommy."

Techno sighed, "I don't know what we could ever do without him."

"Yeah, the little gremlin has become a major part of our life." Wilbur chuckled. "It's crazy to think that we didn't like him at first."

"Yeah you couldn't stand him!" Techno laughed, thinking back to the moment Phil entered their house with the young boy. They had no idea that, that little boy would become the light of their life.

"Hey, you weren't much better." the brunette pointed out, shaking his head. "You were terrified of him."

"He was a terrifying child." 

The brothers laughed.

"I still remember the moment I finally accepted him as a brother." Techno said thoughtfully. Wilbur raised an eyebrow curiously, silently urging him to continue. "It was after his first day of 1st grade. That day he came home with a black eye and a bloody nose."

"You wanted to protect him." 

"Well yes, but there was more to it than that." the pinkette smiled. "I promised myself that I would never let someone make him cry like that again. Seeing him that sad... it broke my heart."

"You had a heart back then?" Wilbur smirked.

"Shut up!" Techno exclaimed, playfully glaring at the younger. He stopped, staring at him. "What about you? When did you realize Tommy was our brother?"

Wilbur thought for a moment, trying to pinpoint the exact moment. A smile appeared on his face as he found it. "Remember when he ran away?" Techno nodded, shivering at the memory. "It was the moment I realized he would never forget what I said to him."

"Do you remember what you said?"

"How could I forget?"

"I hate you! I hate you!" he screamed. "I wish Dad had never brought you here!"

He remembered the look on Tommy's face. The hurt. The pain. But the worst part was the expectation. Tommy had expected this family to go bad. He was just waiting for it to happen.

"I knew it." the blonde had muttered, staring at the ground. "Nobody can love a mistake like me."

Wilbur remembered freezing in that moment, processing the weight of the words that fell from those words. And before he could even say a word back, Tommy was gone, out the door and out of his life.

"No kid should ever think that they don't deserve love." Wilbur shook his head. "I had to prove to him that he was wrong. That he wasn't a mistake and that he could be loved."

Techno was staring at him. "I'm glad we found him that night."

"Me too. I had never felt fear like that before." he admitted.

A groan suddenly came from the blonde, making them snap towards him. Tommy slowly blinked open his eyes, confusion falling over his face.

"Tommy?" Wilbur whispered, praying the boy was finally back.

"Wilby?" he murmured, the childhood nickname slipping from his lips. "Techie?"

The two brothers laughed, relief filling their eyes. 

Wilbur ruffled his hair, chuckling, "Welcome back little brother."
