Tommy POV

"Where is this coming from Tommy?" Phil demanded, folding his arms. "Why are you being like this?"

"You're the one who's not letting me go." Tommy glared, trying so hard to keep his anger under control. He didn't want to start a fight, he knew it wouldn't end well. Especially with both of them being so stubborn.

Phil sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. "Tommy, you're not ready. You're only eighteen-"

"Techno was seventeen. Wilbur was eighteen. How am I any different?"

"You're the youngest-"

"All the more reason for me to go!" Tommy exclaimed. "Everything is so depressing around here." He closed his eyes, rubbing his temples. "I need to go before this place ruins me."

"This is your home." Phil began.

"Dad, I'm growing up. I know you don't want to hear that, but it's the truth. I need to go just like Wilbur and Techno." he paused, noticing how his father's eyes had turned glassy. "I'll come back Dad-"

"Don't lie to me." Phil snarled. "Everyone leaves me." He turned away, wiping his eyes.

"Dad-"

Phil met his eyes, an icy glare following them. "If you want to go so badly then go."

"That's not-"

"GO!" Phil screamed.

Tommy moved closer, feeling the guilt as it filled his heart. "Please listen-" Suddenly he was shoved back with a lot of force, sending him to the tile floor.

"YOU LISTEN TO ME BOY! YOU ARE A SELFISH LITTLE BRAT!" he yelled, his eyes practically turning red. He looked down, before meeting his blue eyes once more. Phil shook his head, "I wish you were never born."

Something in Tommy snapped at that moment. He could tell Phil meant every word he said which terrified him. Tears fell down his face as he scrambled to his feet. He sprinted out the door, not even stopping to grab a jacket. He didn't care about anything in that moment. He just knew he had to get away.

What if Phil did something worse? He didn't want to even think about that possibility.

After a few minutes Tommy finally stopped, panting. He couldn't process anything, his tears were just too much. How could his own father say that? He couldn't even think about going home now, the pain he felt was just too much.

He thought for a moment, slowly calming down. Where was he going to go? Both Techno and Wilbur were in college and he knew neither of them would have the time to come get him. Or the time to even take care of him.

A name popped in his head. Maybe... After all he did say to call whenever he needed something...

Before Tommy could overthink it, he dialed the number, bringing the phone up to his ear.

It only rung twice before a tired voice answered.

"Hey Tommy, what's up?" Tommy bit his lip. What if Schlatt didn't want him calling him? Schlatt's voice came through the phone again, cutting him from his thoughts. "Toms?"

"Hey, uh... I need a place to stay... Can I come over?" he hated how much his voice shook.

Schlatt's voice was immediately more alert. "Of course kid. Do you want me to pick you up?"

"No... I can walk." he sniffed, trying to stop another round of tears from coming.

"See you soon kid."

Tommy stuffed his phone in his pocket, heading towards his new destination. The walk was brief, probably because he was too focused on drying his tears. The last person he wanted to cry in front of was Schlatt.

Once he reached the door he paused, taking a deep breath before knocking. The door opened almost immediately and he was pulled into strong arms. He stiffened in surprise, not expecting this so out of the blue. But as soon as the second passed he melted into the touch, appreciating it for what it was.

Schlatt spoke softly, still holding him in a protective hold. "What happened Toms?"

Tommy took a deep breath, immediately feeling a new wave of emotions hit him. He hated being this vulnerable. But unfortunately he didn't seem to have a choice. "He-e shoved me..." He buried his face in the man's chest, trying to hide his new tears.

"Phil?" Schlatt growled, immediately tightening his grip.

"He said he wished I was never born." the blonde whispered, his voice barely audible.

He could feet Schlatt stiffen in shock, before he slowly pulled out of the hug. The man wiped his tears away with his thumb before gently held the boy's face. "That jerk has no idea what he's talking about." he looked at the blonde for a moment. "You don't believe him, do you kid?"

Tommy looked down, not wanting to meet his eyes. "Maybe-"

"No!" Schlatt firmly shook his head. "You listen to me. You are the best kid I know and I have no idea what I would do without you."

"But what if-"

"Tommy." he said, his eyes softening. "He's wrong- on so many levels."

Tommy closed his eyes, leaning back into a hug. Schlatt immediately hugged him back, hoping to ease the pain the boy was clearly feeling. He made a promise in that moment.

"I'll protect you Tommy." he whispered into his hair. "I promise kid."
