The day started out hot and sunny as I opened my eyes at 7am, painfully. I hated school, but what I hated the most was that I was still classed as the 'new girl'. To make matters even worse, I was British.
Luckily, I had a lot of friends quite fast, with thanks to my father for forcing me into the cheerleading squad. Great parenting, Dad.
On my first day, I had met Kathleen, my best friend for many reasons. I had walked through the main entrance to the school and saw her immediately. She was rushing to grab her books from her locker, not wanting to be seen by anybody in her surroundings. She was and still is shy, her most important trait without her even realising it.
"Hi." I said to the short, curly haired girl who was stationed against the row of lockers. She looked up at me over her huge glasses, a shy smile lingering.
"Hi?" She asked, not recognising me.
"I'm Kimberly. I just joined here today." I introduced myself, holding out a steady hand for her to shake.
"Oh. Hi."
It was delightful to see her smile that day, almost as if she had never been treated so nicely before, which I found weirdly strange until I finally settled into the school and realised the kids here were rude as fuck.
"Kim! Steve's here!" My mum shouted up from the bottom of the stairs, waiting to see my tired face and messy hair appear from my room.
"But it's 7am, mum. Tell him to come back in 2 hours." I groaned down to her with sleep trying to take control of my body, turning on my heels to go back to bed.
"No, sweetheart, it's 8:25. Get ready." She demanded as I took in the time.
8:25? What the fuck.
I rushed back to my room and checked the alarm clock on my bedside table. 8:26. Oh fuck.
I quickly ran to the bathroom and brushed my teeth whilst peeing, listening to Steve's loud voice boom in the room below my feet.
Men. So obnoxious.
I rinsed the toothpaste from my mouth and flushed the toilet, running back into my room and yanking the doors open to my wardrobe.
"Where is my jacket!?" I frantically asked my self, pulling clothes off of their designated hangers and launching them onto the floor. "Fuck! This cannot be happening." I expressed out loud.
"Kimberly!" My mum shouted up to me, this time with frustration.
"Yes, I know! I'm trying to find my bloody jacket!" I replied back to her, harsher than intended.
I finally gave up, hoping and praying I might have left it with Kathleen after the game last night. I quickly grabbed my shoes and bag before rushing down into the living room where Steve was seated in front of the television as if this was a 5 star hotel.
