I sat side by side with Steve and Dustin by the lake just outside of Hawkins, not too far away from home. The sky was beaming orange and pink onto our skins as we laughed away the day, slowly slipping into the cracks of the dark night. I still found it strange how Steve had become this mother figure to his ex girlfriends, little brothers, best friend, but he seemed so happy around Dustin. It was nice to see this change in Steve, even if it meant at the age of 18 we were hanging around with a 14 year old. It was also a bonus that Dustin was hilarious.
"Have you still not spoken to Mike? He's gotta get over it sometime soon, right?." Steve asked the curly haired kid, who scoffed in annoyance.
"No. He's being stubborn." Dustin rolled his eyes. "It's like he isn't even bothered by it." His voice gained pitch as he carried on explaining.
"What's he done now?" I asked them as a collective.
"Mike met this girl, Lucy, and all he and Lucas have done this summer is talk about her and max and hang out with them. They ditched me and Will last week for them but they lied and said they had 'curfew'." Dustin used his fingers to quote Mike. "You don't see me hanging out with Suzie every day!" He exclaimed with a huff, clearly upset by his friends actions.
"He's starting to sound like his sister." Steve muttered under his breath, but I caught his words and shook my head at him.
"I think Mike's easily influenced." I began, but was cut off by Dustin.
"That's what Eddie said to me when I told him the story this morning. He said something about he's a mini Steve." I laughed at my boyfriends words and so did Dustin.
"He's so rude sometimes." Steve shook his head.
"I said, and I quote 'give him 5 years and he'll be trying to get max just like Steve did with Kimberly back in the day' but he wasn't happy about that." I almost choked at the boys words, hoping and praying Steve wasn't daft enough to tell a child our only secret; A secret that was supposed to have been buried years ago.
"You..what- hold up a second." I stumbled over my words in a panic before sitting up straight and looking between the pair. "You.." I pointed to Steve. "Told him.." my finger moved to Dustin. "What we did?" Steve only looked between us both, not knowing how to defuse this situation. "And you.." my eyes landed back on Dustin, as did the finger. "Told Eddie, that I had a fling with Steve? The same boy who he has despised since the first year they met? Even more so that he thought at one point Steve had a thing for me." You could hear the worry laced in my voice, because I knew exactly how Eddie would react to this.
He was going to kill me.
"I-I uh, maybe did, maybe didn't." Dustin knew he had fucked up, but he also knew I would never blame him or be hurtful to him for his mistakes. He was just a kid.
"He's going to flip his shit." I spoke directly to Steve. "What exactly did you tell him?" I asked, continuing to look at the boy across from me.
"Everything..." Steve gulped. My eyes widened at the information, mainly because Dustin didn't need to hear how Steve's tongue had me squirting all over his bed sheets or how I had him in a whimpering mess anytime I wrapped my lips around his cock.
