It was currently November 27th, a Saturday and a bloody freezing cold day to be out and about in.
I had my fingers snuggled into my mittens and my head covered by the white bobble hat that matched my gloves as me and Eddie decided it would be wise to walk to family video and rent a Christmas movie early before all of the Christmas nerds would loan every single holiday movie they possibly could for the month.
I had told him it was a stupid idea, considering it could snow at any given moment, but Eddie was determined to make sure I enjoyed the lead up to Christmas as much as he could allow. I wasn't sure why he was adamant, or fixed on my festive happiness but it felt really nice to know that somebody cared; I adored knowing that I meant so much to Eddie that he would force himself out into the minus degree weather and take the harsh slaps of chilly air just to discern my feelings were full filled.
However, since me and Ed had made it official again on the night of his gig, I had put up this weird boundary between my friends and Eddie and it was starting to cause a large divide in the group.
I didn't mean that I treated them differently and kept them separate from one another, (which I should have done a long time ago), it was a bit more complicated than that. I had no interest in partying, or doing drugs, or spending any real time with them anymore because I was so afraid of myself and what my actions could lead to that I forced myself to change for mine and Eddie's relationship, and it wasn't exactly healthy.
I mean, it was very apparent that our relationship was taking off since my removal of sin, but it was even more obvious that I was pushing away my friends in the process, too scared to allow them to bring back the old Kim and potentially fuck up what me and Eddie had going on.
Billy was the only person who religiously tried to get me to hang out with him or come and do a line at an older guys party on the weekend, and it was very impressive how much patience the boy had.
Only last weekend had his attempts worked slightly, and I decided to hang out with him and Max at the skatepark after school.
"Her and Lucas drive me nuts." Billy told me as we watched his younger sister doing her magic with her board as a few other kids skated along with similar actions.
"They're cute!." I exclaimed with a smile. "She's infatuated with the boy, let her have some fun." I shoved his shoulder and snorted at the way he looked at me.
"She's fourteen! I don't think so, Kim." He scoffed and looked back at her with her Walkman attached to her hip, her hair a little a rough from the headset ontop of her head.
"Gross." I pulled a face at him. "I didn't mean it like that." I shook my head in disbelief and sat up properly, crossing my legs. As I did, I heard Billy sigh from besides me. "What's up?." I asked and twisted my head to face him, my eyebrows scrunched up. "That was a very distinctive sigh right there, Bil." A small smirk tugged on the corner of my mouth.
"What's going on with you at the moment, Kim?." Billy asked with his eyes directly on me, a shadow of sorrow swimming across his iris.
"What do you mean?." I played dumb, not wanting to speak on the subject too much.
"Every since you and Ed got back together you've..changed. It's like you have this sort of..barrier up to protect yourself." I listened to his words and watched the ground as he spoke, knowing everything he was catapulting at me was the truth. "Kathleen cried for hours in my arms last week because she can't stand the fact you aren't..you..anymore." I swallowed the lump in the back of my throat at his words. "Steve hasn't spoken to anybody apart from Robin since the whole ordeal and it's shit to watch us all fall apart because you're too scared that if you let us in, those walls won't protect you from the pain behind it." I heard him shuffle around a little and looked up to see him closer now.
