When we got into Jons rental car, the conversation basically consisted of him finding out shit about me and what I'd been up to since the last time we spoke.
"How long have you and Eddie been together?." Was one of his first questions.
"It's our nine month anniversary in four days." I said as I rolled the window down, finding the car way too stuffy for my liking. I definitely shouldn't have worn jeans.
"Serious then, huh?." He turned his attention to me for a quick second. I nodded at him with a shy smile.
"Pretty much." My response was short.
"And what about your friends?." He asked me. I didn't understand the question entirely as I looked at him a bit clueless. "Are they nice?." He started with his first question about them.
"Sometimes." I shrugged, thinking back to how Tommy was with certain people and how he use to make Steve act around him. "Steve use to be a bit of a bellend, but he's matured a lot. I suppose that's what heartbreak does to a man." I started with Steve. "But, he's always been kind to me. Treats me with respect, even buys me gifts for Mother's Day." I snorted at the memories.
"Mother's Day?." Jon asked with a chuckle.
"Yes, even Mother's Day." I smiled at the thought. "He's a good kid, shit parents though." I didn't plummet into detail about his family.
"I assume that's where you guys found common ground."
"What do you mean?." I asked him, a little confused.
"I'm not stupid, Kim. David's kept me well up to date with how our mother treats you." His eyes met mine.
"She's subsumable. Nothing I can't handle." I shrugged, not wanting to delve into how much of a bitch Maureen could be to me when she wanted to.
"Not really an excuse though, is it?. I didn't know about her drinking until I got here the other night. None of you should have had to go through with that, especially you. You're just a kid, it's not your fault-" I knew he would bring Robbie into it, so I stopped that conversation immediately.
"You've got to meet Kathleen!." I exclaimed happily. "She's so funny and sweet. I did ruin her 18th birthday though." I mumbled to him.
"What did you do?." He asked me intrigued.
"She did some coke for the first time and tried to make out with Eddie. She had just gone through a rough breakup and she was sad." I sighed. "she started to say nasty things to me until I punched her in the face and almost knocked the lights out of her." Jon laughed loudly at my story, causing me to turn and look at him.
"Sorry. Not funny. Got it." He shut up quickly and allowed me to continue.
"Then there's Billy. I work with him at the pool, he's new. Moved here a couple of months ago with his little sister and dad and her mum. He's funny, but likes to cause chaos without realising. I wouldn't change him for the world though." I shrugged, not having too much to say about the curly haired male.
"He sounds like a delight."
"He is."
"What do they think of Eddie?." He asked the question I knew he had been wanting to find the answer to since we stepped foot in the car.
"Kathleen loves him to bits, Steve..well, Steve doesn't like him very much. I don't know why exactly, he tells me it's because he's controlling but he's the only one who thinks that. I think they were fighting before I got here if I'm being honest. Billy knew Eddie before I knew Bil so they're close friends." I told Jon casually, waiting for his next question as we were only a few minutes away from the bar.
