The night was darker than usual, so dark that the naked eye couldn't comprehend the shadows lurking ahead. I blinked and turned, just trying to see. Anything in my provisional would be great right now.
At first, I thought I had been having the nightmare, but reoccurring dreams didn't change, not this drastically.
"He's here." I heard the whisper of a male, too quiet to make out who it was. "He's here, Kim. He's here for me." It sounded almost as if they were walking around my body in a circle, whispering on both sides of my head.
"I don't unde-"
"He's going to hurt me..he's going to tear us apart.." from the man's words, I assumed it was Eddie. "Don't let him to this to us.." he continued to circle
around me. "Do it for me." He commanded me to do something, but I wasn't sure exactly who Eddie was referring to."Do what?..Eddie!." I exclaimed, becoming panicked by my boyfriends scared voice.
"Kill him, Kimberly.." he trailed off, the sound of Eddie's voice retreating. "If you don't, he'll - kill - me."
I jumped up in my bed, the quilts tightly wrapped around my fists as I whipped my head in all the directions of my room. The sweat sticking to my skin had made me stuffy and breathless, making me feel small and cornered. I breathed deeply for 10 seconds as Eddie had always instructed me to do, and it had worked again.
The sound of my house phone ringing besides my bed and downstairs startled me more than I already was. I sighed and rolled over, picking the phone up to my ear and beginning the conversation with the person calling.
"Hello?." I groaned croakily, trying to adjust my eyes to the time on my drawers, seeing it was only 6am.
"Hi, pumpkin. Sorry to wake you so early." My dad greeted me kindly, regardless of the tone of my voice.
"Mornin'." I mumbled, feeling my eyes begin to shut slowly.
"I've got some good news!." Him exclaiming made me open my eyes again. "We're coming home today. The nurses have allowed your mother to be discharged with the boys. We should be home later in the afternoon, maybe." I could hear the happiness in his voice, but for me, it was only dread.
"Okay. I'll get the house cleaned." I told him, knowing how appreciative they would be. "listen dad..I've gotta go, gotta call work. I'll see you tonight." My words were blunt, but he knew I meant well.
"We've missed you. See you tonight, pumpkin. We love you." He bid me goodbye, I only grunted in response and dropped the phone back onto its handle.
I groaned and rubbed my eyes, sighing loudly before sitting up and reconnecting my hand with the telephone once again to call Billy this time.
Instead of calling in sick to work, I decided to just see if Billy would cover for me seeing as he and Paige have been sharing shifts and it's starting to irritate him.
The line almost cut out from the amount of times it rang, but he finally answered, sounding the same as I had with my father.
"What?." He practically snapped down the phone. At least I knew it was definitely Billy.
"Mornin, Bil." I greeted him, almost fully awake now.
"Oh. Sorry Kim, I didn't mea-"
"It's okay. It's too early for phone calls, I know. I just wanted to see if you'd cover for me at work today? My mums coming home soon and I want to get some stuff done before hand." I explained the details to him but left out the part where I would never be able to leave the house again after today unless it was for work.
