The not so abandoned diner was filled to the brink with every single senior from Hawkins high, and I meant literally everyone. The kids from band were here, the kids who wrote the Hawkins high paper, the cheer team, the basketball squad, the druggies, the artsy kids, even the drama nerds and the hellfire club had made an appearance. Well, everybody besides Eddie had made an appearance.
I knew I definitely shouldn't have been in this crowd, hand in hand with Steve so I didn't get lost, and it was starting to show on the faces of my peers when their eyes stuck to my face as I walked by. Double that; Benny was only away for a month in Barbados or some shit, so I definitely shouldn't have been here. None of us should.
"You feeling okay?." Steve asked over the thunderous booming of the music. I nodded at him and clung onto the boys hand for dear life as we carried on moving through the crowd.
Kathleen and Robin were behind me and Steve but there was no sign of Billy, as per usual. I never knew what that guy got up to, and sometimes I'm glad I didn't ask because I already had lost enough braincells.
"Kim!." My name was called and I looked around, seeing Chrissy Cunningham approaching me with Jason glued to her hip. "I didn't think you'd come!." She squealed and wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Uh, what are you two doing here?." I ignored her question and asked them, not bothering to hug her back either as I had Steve's hand still laced in mine.
"Jason's brother invited us." Chrissy took a step back to besides Jason and pointed her thumb to the crowd behind her.
"what a dick." Steve said with a scoff, holding out a cup for me to take. "Yo!. Carl!." Steve unlinked our fingers and moved through the two juniors in front of us, going to start a conversation with Jason's older brother.
"Where's your freak of a boyfriend?." Jason asked with a smug smile, and it was taking everything in me not to punch his teeth down the back of his throat.
"Wow. You're a rude one, aren't you?." Kathleen asked Jason with her arms crossed over her chest. Jason scoffed and looked Kathleen up and down in disgust.
"He is a freak." Jason said as I watched Chrissy become very uncomfortable at the situation we were now in.
"Seriously, Jason." I said to him. "Fuck off." I rolled my eyes at the boy. "It was nice seeing you Chris. I hope next time our paths cross you're with somebody who isn't a fucking asshole." I smiled at her and turned away from the couple, hating the fact that a kind soul such as Chrissy's was being used by a prick like Jason. Why couldn't he just be more like his brother?.
"Why is she with him?." Robin asked exactly what I was thinking.
"Because he's the next Steve Harrington-"
"And she's the new and improved Kim." Kathleen cut me off with a smirk. I shoved her shoulder and gasped at her words, watching as she laughed loudly at my actions.
"If anything would she not be the new Nancy?." Robin asked with a furrowed brow.
"I suppose." I said and shrugged, looking back to the couple who were laughing at something Andrew Davidson was babbling on about.
"But Nancy isn't going to be prom queen." Kathleen said and took a swig of her drink. "We all know it's going to be Kim." She snorted.
"I'm not sure these lot are going to vote the towns junkie as prom queen. "It'll probably be Carol or Natalia." I almost gagged at the name leaving my mouth, still not one hundred percent keen on the girl.
