"Congratulations!." I squealed to Steve as he approached me and Eddie in the midst of the crowd. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he chuckled and replied.
"Thanks, Kim." Steve's words were more quiet than mine as his lips rested besides my head. "But it should've been you up there with me." He said and pulled away from my embrace, his arms still encircling my waist.
"Maybe this time last year, but not now." I shook my head at him with a smile. "I'm just happy you got what you wanted." I shrugged and pulled him back into my body.
"Really living up to that name, huh?." Eddie said to Steve from besides me and slapped his back, causing Steve's body to jolt into mine a little. Steve pulled back with a cocked brow. "King Steve." Eddie clarified for the confused boy.
"Oh." Steve chuckled. "Yeah, I guess." He said and turned his head to the sound of Kathleen shouting his name.
"Stevie!." She yelled and jumped on his back. I moved closer to Eddie so that I didn't become involved in a fatal accident from how harsh she attacked him. "You did it, Stevie!." Kathleen kissed his cheek multiple times as Steve tried to wipe away her saliva from his face.
"Okay!. That's enough." A small grin appeared on his lips as I felt Eddie wrap his arm around my waist.
The butterflies. The butterflies were back.
"I'm just going to make a phone call." I whispered to Eddie who looked down at me uncertainly but i ignored his looks and moved myself through the crowd and into the fresh air of the Hawkins atmosphere. It was truly nice here, but it just wasn't home unfortunately.
I quickly dialled in my home number into the phone box and listened to it ring relentlessly. Huh?. Where were my parents?. I put the phone down and picked it back up again, dialling in David's number this time and sighing with relief when the ringing stopped and his voice sounded.
"Hello?." He asked.
"Hey, Dave." I said with a small chuckle. "It's me." I said.
"Hey, little sis." David's tone of voice was gentle once he realised it was only me. "How's prom going?." He sniggered and I scoffed.
"As boring as you could imagine." I laughed with my truth, running my finger through the cord of the phone. "Steve got crowned prom king, as we all suspected." I let him know.
"What an ego booster. The guy doesn't really need it though." David snorted as I laughed at his words.
"Yeah, well. He seems happy enough." I said contentedly. "Do you know where mum and dad are?." I asked him, changing the topic to what I had initially rang him for.
"They're with me and Abi. Dad thought it'd be nice for you and your friends to have a little bit of fun after prom so he said you have the house to yourself just- dad!." David cut his own words off by exclaiming to my father.
"Hello, pumpkin." My dads voice sounded down the phone now.
"Hey, dad." I said a little unenthusiastic, not really on the best of terms with him in this current period.
"How was the prom?." He asked me and I shrugged, even though he couldn't see that.
"Good." I lied, not really wanting to repeat myself.
