Summer break was here, at last. I had a feeling that this summer break would be a lot different to the last one, especially as I now had five stitches in one hand, better grades than last year and my siblings would be here in just under two months. It would probably also have something to do with the fact our whole friendship ground had crumbled miserably into the ground below our feet.

Since the last summer, we no longer hung out with Carol and Tommy - thank god - I now had a boyfriend, Barb and Kathleen wouldn't even look each other in the eyes never mind do what they were doing this time last year, Steve had made friends with a child - I honestly don't have a clue how that happened - and I was practically about to become a full time mum. How exciting..

We were three days into the break and I had decided to earn myself some cash by getting a job at the local swimming pool. It was only temporary, but it meant I could spare time when my friends were busy and I could buy whatever I wanted without using my parents money.

My auntie Lin had told my dad that she'd made me an account with a lot of savings in it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was all gone, no thanks to my mum. I didn't want to open it just yet, i thought it would be better to keep saving it until I left home but it wasn't looking like that was going to happen anytime soon.

Anyway, today I had my first shift - 11am till 2pm - which meant I had plenty of time to see Eddie, Steve and even Kathleen on three separate occasions, but it would most likely be Steve and Kathleen before I saw Ed. Him and Steve were civil, but no where near close to friends, that would take more than a conversation.

In my room, stood infront of my mirror; I got dressed, pulling some jeans over my work uniform with a white button up shirt. I was not okay with walking around in a swimsuit, no thankyou. I picked up my sunglasses and left my hair down, flowing along my back for the first time in a while. I hated to wear my hair down, but I would be wearing my sunnies so nobody would be able to point out how awful it made the structure of my face.

Grabbing my house keys, a packet of cigarettes and some spare change my dad had left for me this morning, I left my bedroom and jogged down the stairs.

"Mum?" I asked as I walked past the banister, into the kitchen and then into the living room. She was sat in the same position she is all the time, just staring at the tv but this time, it wasn't even on. "Mum, what are you doing?." I asked her slowly, a little worried for her well being. She turned her head towards me and stared at me with a blank expression.

"Where are you going?." She ignored my query and asked her own. I blinked a few times before answering her.

"To work. What are you doing?." I reminded her that I wanted to know why she was sat alone doing nothing.

"Waiting for your father to come back." Her head turned back to the blank screen, not a single ounce of care laced in her voice. I took a look around my surroundings to make sure I wasn't tripping balls because she was acting so strange.

"O..Kay.." truth be told, my mum creeped me the fuck out sometimes. If she wasn't hitting me or something else, she would act strange, like this; if she wasn't drinking alcohol, she was unrecognisable, like this. I didn't have the time to stand around and wait for her to become angry or upset over something, so I ignored her strange behaviour and walked out of the door.
