[ Jake has a sensory freakout over the textures, smells, and tastes of food ]

Jake is seated at the table with Johnnie. Having a bunch of food options for them to try out.

Jake is laughing when Johnnie takes a sip of his drink and smiles. "I'm excited to try this." Jake says with a gasp, holding the snack. "This is the most bitter chocolate bar.".

"Oh, you're going to hate it." Johnnie says as he watches Jake take a bite.

Jake felt overwhelmed as he slowly chewed it, his face scrunching up. "Oh God"

Johnnie laughs as he watches Jake's reaction. "I warned you." Johnnie says with a grin.

"This is- augh!!" Jake cringed as he finished his bite. Johnnie chuckles again. "I told you. I told you"
He says in between laughs.

Then, they started trying the other foods. Jake wasn't liking ANY of them, and it made him kinda sad.

But the smells, textures, and scents of the food they're trying are starting to freak out the punk.

Johnnie notices that Jake isn't liking any of the food and stops eating. "Hey, are you okay?" He asks, sounding concerned.

Jake didn't respond, he just leaned forward and clicked the camera off. Jake huffs, as he suddenly gets up and walks out of the room. He started to feel overstimulated, which made him angry, he always loves to try new things, so why was this happening??

Johnnie follows Jake out of the room, still confused about what was going on. He catches up to Jake and grabs his arm. "Jake, what's wrong? Why did you turn off the camera?"

Jake felt his body freeze when Johnnie grabbed his arm. He wasn't talking either. He just pulled his arm back, and continued to walk down the hall and then down the stairs.

Johnnie follows Jake down the stairs and stops in front of him. "Hey, wait a minute.."

Then Johnnie started to realize, looking closely at how Jake is behaving, seeing the signs.

Jake walks past Johnnie, and sits on the living room couch, tucking up his PJ pant dressed covered legs as his hands start to flap.

Johnnie looks at Jake with concern as he watches him sit down on the couch. He realizes that Jake is experiencing sensory overload, and that he's struggling to cope with the different sensations around him.

Jake is still moving his face around, scrunching up his nose. Still feeling the overwhelming tastes still on his tongue.

Johnnie approaches Jake slowly and kneels down next to him. He gently places a hand on Jake's shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. Just take deep breaths and try to focus on one thing at a time." He says in a soothing voice.

Jake is currently fixated on the after tastes of the foods, he brought his hand up to his tongue, gagging a bit.

Johnnie watches as Jake gags and feels a wave of sympathy for him. He knows how difficult it can be to cope with sensory overload, and he wants to help Jake in any way he can. "Here, let me get you some water." He says, getting up and heading towards the kitchen.

"Eugh!" Jake exclaimed, gagging again. He was trying to make himself puke on purpose, he wanted the food out of his system.

Johnnie returns with a glass of water and kneels back down next to Jake. "Here, drink this." He says, holding the glass out to him. "It'll help you get rid of the aftertaste."

Jake whines a little, grabbing the glass of water. He downs it. Then hands the glass back to Johnnie. He flaps his hands again. "fuck, man. i never had this shit happen to me! with food?! ugh, fuck. it was just too many disgusting foods! like, that-that- pizza with all the cheese lumps! I didn't like the lumps.."

Johnnie takes the glass and sets it aside. He nods in understanding as Jake explains what was wrong.

"I get it. It's normal to have certain foods that you don't like. It's just that sometimes we have to try new things and push ourselves out of our comfort zones. But it's okay to take breaks and do what's best for you." He pauses for a moment, then looks at Jake with a concerned expression. "Do you need me to call anyone? your therapist?"

Jake shakes his head, "we don't have to call anyone". His hands continued to flap, stimming. "I love trying new foods, but today, I don't know what's going on!!" he panics.

Johnnie nods and places a hand on Jake's shoulder again. "It's okay, you don't have to try to understand it right now. Just take some deep breaths and try to calm down." He looks at Jake with concern and tries to think of a way to help him feel better

Jake takes a few deep breaths. Then something clicks into Johnnie's mind, 'safe foods'.

Johnnie's eyes light up as he remembers something. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small bag of pretzels. "Here, try these. They're one of my favorite safe foods. They're not too overwhelming and they're easy to chew." He opens the bag and offers it to Jake.

Jake grasps the bag of pretzels. Grabbing one, his shoulders started to relax as he hesitantly puts the food item in his mouth.

Johnnie watches as Jake eats the pretzel, relieved to see that it seems to be helping him feel better. "How do they taste? Do you like them?" He waits for Jake's response before offering him another pretzel.

Jake nods to Johnnie's questions, he stared at the pretzel in Johnnie's hand before he grabbed it and ate it.

Johnnie smiles as Jake eats the pretzel. He's glad that he's able to help Jake feel better and that he's not feeling overwhelmed anymore. "That's good. Would you like some more?" He offers Jake another pretzel from the bag.

Jake's hands flapped again as he shakes his head. Carrington walks down the stairs, since he heard the commotion. He went over to the cabinet and opened it. "Is he ok?" Carrington asks.

Johnnie looks up at Carrington and nods. "Yeah, he's okay now. He was just having a sensory overload and needed some time to calm down." He looks back at Jake and smiles. "Are you feeling better now, Jake?"

Jake signs with his hand, 'kinda' as he continues to flap his hands, rocking his body a little too on the couch.

"What caused it?" Carrington asks, looking over. His pale blue eyes expressed concern.

Johnnie looks up at Carrington and shrugs. "I'm not sure. He was eating some food for a video and all of a sudden, he started to feel overwhelmed. It could be a combination of things, like too many different flavors or textures, or maybe he's just having a bad day." He turns back to Jake. "Do you think you can tell us what happened, Jake?"

"You got it, right" Jake says, as his hands slowly stopped flapping. He drums his fingers on his knees. Carrington turned as he grabs a package of gumny worms and walks over to Jake.

Johnnie watches as Carrington brings the gummy worms over to Jake. He knows that Jake loves those candy treats and he hopes that they'll help him feel better.

"Yeah, I think I understand now. The sensory overload was caused by all the different flavors and textures of the food. It was just too much for you to handle." He smiles reassuringly at Jake.

"Mhm, mhm" Jake nods as he grabs the gummy worms, opening the package and starting to eat them happily. Carrington smiled, "He seems pretty chilled out now."

Johnnie nods in agreement as he watches Jake eat the gummy worms. "Yeah, he seems much more relaxed now. I'm glad that we were able to help him calm down." He looks up at Carrington and smiles. "Thanks"

"no problem" Carrington responded, patting Jake's head and then getting up and going up to his room.

Jake felt much better, relaxing himself. "Did we finish the video..? fuck, no we didn't.." he shakes his head.

Johnnie chuckles as Jake remembers that they didn't finish the video. "No, we didn't finish the video. But that's okay, we can pick up where we left off tomorrow." He looks at Jake with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry about it."

"Okay." Jake nods as he sets the empty package of gumny worms on the coffee table.

Calmed down and grateful for his best friend.
