"America!"
Said country started when he heard his name being called out so aggressively. He turned around, relaxing when it wasn't some random, angry country storming up at him.
"Oh, Ukraine! What's up?"
"So, what did he say?" Ukraine asked. He knew she was going to ask
"Well... he didn't exactly say much,"America was a little disgruntled when he remembered the lack of response that Russia gave him.
"Anything about the war?"she prompted.
"Nothing." America wondered if he and Canada would ever be on such terms if they were at war with each other. He hoped not.
Ukraine, instead of looking frustrated, seemed to be a bit concerned. "Not a single implication of anything big? Nothing..." she looked around and waited until a group of countries passed by. "Nuclear?"
America also took a quick glance at their surroundings before saying, "Nothing. Nothing nuclear. Just not a single word about it."
"Odd."
"What's so odd about it? This war has dragged on for such a long time. I'm not surprised that he doesn't talk about it anymore-"
"He never talks about it,"Ukraine corrected him.
"Either way, nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada,"America emphasized with hand motions.
"Where is he now?"
"I don't know,"America shrugged. "Come to think of it, I haven't seen him at all after I've talked to him."
Ukraine frowned, as if suspicious. "Strange. Why does he keep disappearing like that? Sometimes, I don't see him for an entire day."America noted this remark with a nod. "You're gonna ask him about it?"
"Why shouldn't I? I need to find out about everything he's doing. I can't have him planning anything dangerous."
"Weeeell, Ukraine,"America sounded doubtful, even a bit apprehensive about what he was going to say. He crossed his arms. "From what I've seen, he doesn't seem to want to hurt you."
Ukraine, impatient, said, "I'm not taking any chances. This war has gone on for so long that almost the entire world has taken it as normal."
She walked away, leaving America a bit concerned. As far as he knew, Russia didn't go actively seeking out to harm anyone. He was, despite the rumors, a pretty chill guy. No pun intended. Maybe. Although not exactly chill when Canada was with Ukraine. More like, chilly. America would like to be on neutral terms with him, unlike the hostility in the human world.
But instead, he had to put on this "hero" facade and be equally aggressive to Russia. What a pain in the butt his role was. Although he didn't exactly approve of the RusAme ships either-
America sighed. His life was so difficult.
"I've been in here for so long."
Russia heard thoughts echo as soon as he entered the light.
Russia didn't know how to feel when he found them. Although the miserable emotions were almost tangible, he was drawn to sparks of hope that he couldn't explain. They were hidden amongst the swirling spirits of Nationals.
He turned around, looking for the unusual source. Even he felt hopelessness in this place. He didn't even know if he could get out.
The bite stung him back to his own emotions, away from the ones that were not his. His arm felt sore, but he suppressed the urge to freeze it a bit. He didn't know, or want to know, if the ice crystals on his arm would grow when he activated even a bit of energy to harness his ice powers.
