Why are we here? He asks as he motions around to his white realm as he sits on his throne.

"I'm hoping for the truth. Not your truth or Lovely's truth but the truth," I say while sitting in a smaller thone across from him.

"Was it necessary to leave us in the dark? Was it necessary to hide their existence from us?" I ask.

"The founding fathers deemed it necessary when the discovery was made. The tradition was simply passed down through each generation. The treaty was nothing that Lovely and I had a hand in putting into place."

"If that's the truth why not change it?"

"Would you want a world where unannounced visitors frequently visited us?"

"No, I guess not. What was his deal anyway?" I ask.

"Looking for the best," he replies.

"He wants to be one of her five?"

"No, he wants to be the only one, I suppose he would have had a fight, even if Nicholas were still here," he says mostly to himself.

"What do you mean if Nicholas were here?"

"Nicholas would put up a fight, he wouldn't let his wife go so easily."

"What do you mean by wife?"

"She was promised to Nicholas and Lydia, you're a smart guy, I thought you would put that together when you found out she was promised to Lydia," he says.

"Why would I put that together? He's her freaking cousin!"

"Calm down, there's an exemption for a High King or Queen," he replies nonchalantly.

"So, they can marry whomever they like? Brother or sister? Father or mother?"

"If they so desire."

"I think the laws of High Royalty need to be reexamined and updated," I say.

"No, at present it's a complete waste of time and resources. Let's wait until Ever decides to give birth. We have more important matters to deal with."

"You mean when we decide," I say.

He shrugs his shoulders and looks around.

"This is your realm, why are you looking around?" I ask.

"Bored."

"Whatever, what was his punishment?" I ask.

"I'm not privy to that information. That is a matter for his family."

"So what's going to stop him from coming back?"

"His family or nothing at all."

How can he be so nonchalant about this? This is a serious matter that could pose a problem.

"You can't be serious."

"I am very serious. If that is all–"

"No, I've been wanting to ask you something since our stay at the Chevalier's guest suite."

"What is it?"

"You mentioned relief tactics when it comes to Ever, what did you mean?"

He stares at me.

"Please tell me, Adrienne and I care for her and we're a part of her guard, I'm sure we need to know," I say.

"It is; but not because you're a part of her guard. We are her relief tactic."

"What?"

"The stone and the power that runs through her veins are too strong for her, it's amazing how she's able to withstand it. I guess the thing that makes her strong is also her weakness. However, the pressure builds up over time and it makes her sick; she'll experience headaches, faint, hallucinate, puke, forget simple things, et cetera, et cetera. Whenever we draw blood it relieves some of the tension or stress. It's comforting to her."

"Okay, so if she experiences symptoms we should draw blood from her?"

"No, we have her on a schedule to catch it before build-ups occur, if she gets off schedule call Lovely or myself."

"Why? Why can't we just drink from her if needed?"

"Don't ever do that, you haven't got enough power to refrain; You'll go overboard and take too much."

"How can you say that?"

"I know you. I know Adrienne. I know Lydia. Nothing good will come of it."

"I can't speak for Lydia, but Adrienne and I will not hurt her."

"No, not purposely; it's beyond overwhelming and difficult to stop."

Beyond overwhelming; how does he know? I could punch him in the throat. Just the thought of him being close to Ever sickens me.

"When was the last time you drank for her?" I cautiously ask.

"Don't worry it was long ago for Lovely and I; many years before you met her."

"Is this the truth?"

"Yes," he quickly replies.

"Thank you," I say while trying to distinguish between anger, and relief, and which one I feel the most.

So many things have become clear to me now.

"I need to tell Adrienne," I say.

"That is fair and it just as fair if I share this with Princess Lydia, should she ever be in a situation where she needs to help the Queen," he replies.

"She won't be, but fine."

"Any more questions?"

"Why won't you let Jolee return home?"

"Why do you ask?"

"I just got the feeling that she'd be more happy with you."

"I miss but it is for the best. She'll return soon."

"What makes you think Lydia will let her go?"

"She will per our agreement. Lydia is pretty easy to tame."

He must know a completely different side of her, in my opinion, she's beyond difficult.

"If you say so."

"Any more questions?"

"What's going on between you and Lovely?"

"We were enemies who have raised two plethorians together and in the process have become friends."

"Okay, play it that way. I don't want whatever is going on between the two of you and Queen Olivia to affect Ever because it can."

"Nothing is going on between us."

"Please keep it that way."
