Adrienne

Sitting in silence has been peaceful.

It is weirdly peaceful considering they temporarily took away our hearing.

It is so peaceful that I find myself looking for trouble around each corner.

Even amid her training, I feel peace surrounding me.

And boredom. How long will this training be?

Johan briefly looks at us and smiles. He's seemingly proud of himself for making us unable to hear their training and conversation.

At least Ever seems engaged and eagerly paying attention to what Johan and Lovely are saying but I suppose that's because she wants him to teach her how to fly. Fortunately, they seem as eager to see her move onto the next level. They sure know how to keep her focused and motivated just as she seems to have them wrapped around her finger. It makes me wonder what their relationship was before Johan erased her memory and what it would be like if she ever chose to remember.

"Sweetheart, can you hear me?" he whispers.

"I can, I guess we can't hear them," I reply and look at him.

His eyes rapidly bounce around the elaborate training room until they meet Johan's lips. He seems to be trying to focus on every word but frowns. Strange, considering reading lips was one of the first things we were taught when we were trained.

"What is it?" I ask.

"Focus and pay attention. We can't read their lips either. He's done something. His words don't make any sense."

"How so?"

"Read his lips."

I look at Johan and notice his lips moving at a steady pace.

"Twingle takes four placid plates around bay less tiontal glass mirrors romote opportunity flax teal cloud keep pepper," Johan says?

What? What the heck was that? His words made no sense whatsoever, it seems more like useless rambling, but nothing he says or oes is useless.

"See, told you," Liam says, "Adrienne what did you hear?"

"Stupid intentional stuff- Twingle takes four placid plates around bay less tiontal glass mirrors romote opportunity flax teal cloud keep pepper."

"We read the same words. He's purposely doing this. Him and Lovely are like two big controlling peas in a pod, most times I can't stand them- freaking annoying," Liam pouts.

"I know right?" I ask, chuckling at the humor in this serious situation. What do you say to taking her for a flight when we get out of here?"

"That would be great, she'll like that. Let's talk after our flight okay?"

"What's there to talk about?"

"My pending stay in Sojourn Prison. I know you don't want to talk about it–"

"That's right because you're not going."

"Adrienne, sweetheart–"

"Aren't we supposed to be guarding her and attempting to read their lips? Let's concentrate."

"Fine but we're going to talk about it."

No, we aren't, my silly husband.

The fall breeze has settled down enough for this to be enjoyable, or perhaps we've reached the only spot on this island where the bright sunslight has provided a momentary relief from the wind.
