You and Tanahashi continued your staring contest, waiting for the exact moment the other moved.
The twitch of a muscle, the oblong blink of an eye. Any sudden motion would set the two of you off, sending the two of you into an inevitable battle.

One of you would fall in this city deep down below. Both of you were adamant that it would be the other.
Who it would be, wasn't something that you could speculate. Instead, it would be something that would decided by action.

You kept staring at Tanahashi, right in the eye. Then, a sound to your left could be heard. You darted your eyes towards it for just a moment to see what the source was.
When they returned to look at Tanahashi, his right arm was already halfway out of his duster, and the barrel of a rifle stuck out.

He quickly pulled it out completely, revealing an assault rifle. Then he fired at you with one arm, and a storm of bullets came hurtling towards you.
At the same time, his left arm came out of his duster as well, revealing a pistol that he also aimed at you with.

Despite that, you stood still, and allowed the bullets he had fired pass through you.

At first you decided to just wait until he ran out of bullets, so that he would be forced to reload. After seeing him pull out the pistol from his duster, you realized that he had enough weapons hidden underneath that he wouldn't have to.

So you ran. It wasn't what you had in mind, but it was the only thing you could that wouldn't absolutely drain your energy. Into the nearest alley you went, narrowly avoiding Tanahashi's gunfire as he turned in place to keep the pressure on you.

You entered the alley properly, and you were shielded from Tanahashi by the shoddy buildings to your sides. At least, you hoped so. If they were exposed to something like the wind, you weren't entirely sure they'd hold.

You ran further into the alley, and turned around to see whether Tanahashi would follow you in or not.

While you waited, you noticed that it had suddenly grown darker. You looked around, to see that some of the light stopped shining out from the buildings around you.

They continued to shut off progressively, until the orange light from the homes completely disappeared.

Now, you were left surrounded in complete and utter darkness.

The faint sound of flickering that you heard from the homes had stopped now. Fires, you assumed, and they had gone out. Or more accurately, put out by the people inside to help Tanahashi.

'Do I wait here for him, or do I start running away? I don't think I'll be able to get too far if I do run, I'm completely unfamiliar with this part of the city.'
