A couple days later, Kazero unexpectedly called you. In the middle of class. You scurried out of the room before Midnight commented on it somehow.
From the look on her face as you approached the door, she was going to tease you about it regardless.
"Oh? Your special someone can't wait L/N? Or maybe, are you the one who's starved?" She asked in her usual provocative tone.
"God, I wish. I'd rather anyone else was calling me." You stopped in front of the door to answer her. It was also to keep Kazero waiting out of spite.
"Oh. An ex then. I completely understand." You heard her say as you left the room.
Fine by you. You weren't exactly allowed to just up and leave the classroom like that.
You made your way into the middle of the hallway, to not disturb the classrooms on either side of you. Not that you needed to, you weren't going to talk obnoxiously loud into your phone or anything.
It took you so long to answer Kazero's call that you ended up missing it. There was a few seconds of silence before you heard the sound of your ringtone again. You let him wait a little bit longer before actually answering it.
"Yugo-han." Kazero greeted angrily, not even trying to hide it.
"Kazero, what's up?" You greeted back, coolly.
"I hope you have a good reason for not answering the first time." He continued.
"Do you know what time it is? I'm a student, remember? I don't have the luxury to do whatever I want, or in some adults' cases, nothing at all." It was a good excuse, but it was very clearly not the true reason.
"Hm, well, I guess you're right." Kazero sounded reluctant to say.
"The question is, do you have the time to be badgering me about answering? If you're strapped for time, just get to the point." You cracked back, not liking the tone he was giving you.
"Okay! Alright." He said with equal reluctance. Actually, he sounded almost angry that you were right.
"You're cleared to start searching for Liu Man Ying whenever your team is ready. Like I told you, you all have practically free rein over how you want to go about it." He explained, calming his voice down over the course of a couple sentences.
"Really? It took them this long to come up with that? Stay on course?" You asked.
"Well, there is one thing they've added." Kazero barely decided to reveal to you. He should've started with that.
"Which is?" You asked in a tired tone, not at all caring for what he had to say. You didn't really expect much from it either.
"They want the sword."
Boy, how wrong you were.
"Excuse me?" You let out in genuinely, unsure if you heard him correctly. Or maybe you asked out of denial.
"They want the sword that Liu's working on. Preferably undamaged, but at most, in one piece. Those were their words, verbatim." Kazero described to you.
