Coffee (JohnJae)

"Hi, wow, it's been a long time." Johnny says as he accidentally bumps into his ex boyfriend Jaehyun. Johnny smiles sheepishly as he stares at Jaehyun's unreadable expression.
"H-hi, yeah. Long time." The break up was mutual, that's not to say it wasn't difficult. Jaehyun especially took it hard.
They were amazing together in so many ways but their fights were on another level. It started with small arguments about what to have for dinner, or whose turn it was to take out the trash. As time went by the arguments tuned into screaming matches and hurtful words. It was almost a competition at the end, who could hurt the other more, in the end it was always Johnny that took that prize.

"I've been meaning to contact you. I just want to talk. You know, clear the air and apologize for my behavior." Johnny says softly.
"Oh? Yeah, I think that would be ok." Johnny shows relief on his face as his smile widens.
"That's great, can we meet for dinner? Maybe that Italian place?" Jaehyun scrunches his nose.
"I don't know, I haven't been able to set foot back in there since that night." He says with a frown.

Can't meet you for dinner at the Italian place, it's where I met your family some words were exchanged...

"Mom, dad, this is Jaehyun." He watches as Johnny's father frowns and eyes him up and down before looking at Johnny.
"You said you were bringing your significant other, this is a man." Jaehyun clears his throat and looks down.
"This is my significant other, my lover, my boyfriend. We are together and have been for six months already. I love him." Jaehyun feels dizzy. The unfairness of this whole thing is like a knife stabbed right into his chest.
"Well, have a seat dears, let's get to know Jaehyun a little shall we?" Johnny''s mother chimes in, trying to be the peacemaker in all this. Johnny nods and leads him to the two empty seats next to each other and places his hand on his thigh. He supposes it's meant as a comforting gesture but he is beyond uncomfortable at this point.

"That is my little sister Jenna. She was also born in Chicago." Jaehyun looks at her and smiles politely.
"It's so nice to meet you Jenna." She nods with a frown.
"You too, it's nice to meet my brother's next phase." Jaehyun frowns as he looks at Johnny who looks like he could reach across the table and strangle his slightly younger sister. This time Jaehyun puts his hand on Johnnys thigh.
"What are you even talking about?" He asks through gritted teeth. She smirks.
"Oh, you know. There was that time when you thought you wanted to be an idol because you thought it would be a good way to get girls. Then the time you bought a bunch of stuff for racing because you thought you would look cool. Turns out he couldn't afford the actual car and had to give up his dream of a whole two weeks." She says the last part to Jaehyun.
"And what about the time when you wanted to drop out of college and marry that girl because she thought she was pregnant?" Johnny's face is burning up, especially when he looks at his parents and sees the smoke coming out of their ears.
"Stop. I don't understand what you are getting at here with all this anyway. I am bisexual, I can like women or men and it just so happens I met this wonderful person next to me and couldn't be happier."

Jaehyun is fighting the warmth that is spreading through him. Not the kind of warmth you get from fuzzy heartfelt compliments. The kind that makes him wish he was somewhere else, the kind that screams embarrassment and irritation.
He didn't think dinner would be this way. He hoped it would go well.
"So, how did you two meet anyway?" His mother asks with a smile that looks painful to keep on her face but she does it anyway.
"We met at the cafe on campus. Jaehyun was working there to earn extra money and we struck up a conversation the first time we met. He was, well is so easy to talk to. By the time my order was ready it was his shift change so he asked me to wait for him and he grabbed himself a coffee and we went across the street to the park. We talked for hours. It was actually hard to send him off, I found myself wanting to be in his presence all the time." Jaehyun allows a smile to form on his lips. He's angry at Johnny and thinks it's unfair that he is being sweet like this now but it still brings him warmth.
