She/her readerThe desert's sun was not a bother, not after years and years of training under it.
The sand under Y/n's feet felt just as normal, the countless patrols, drills, and training she had endured under it as a Gerudo Warrior made her used to it, her steps swift and fast over the grains.
It was while training in the scoarching heat for hours and hours that Ganondorf himself, surveiling his troops as they gave all they had in training, had noticed this particular Gerudo.
Averege in looks, but intriguing in character.
Silent, focused, almost as if her all personality was fighting to ensure the reign of the Demon King himself. He couldn't say he expected less from his army, at least, the human part of it. The monsters were only made to destroy and kill, not distinguishing between Ganondorf's own people and those who resided in hyrule.
But his people, they had intellect, planning, and skill, and some more than others.A selected few had been chosen to always be at his side, his own guards. Not that he needed them, but it gave them a sense of security, and he couldn't say no to a few more pairs of eyes to watch his back.
In these few, Y/n had managed to get out on top, ever secretive, never speaking unless spoken to, true to the heierarchy and of outmost loyalty, even suggesting a few strategies along the way, and never backing down from his own plans and decisions.
But that wasn't Y/n's only skill.
She learned quick, and was adept with other arts. Crafting, repairing, sewing, playing music. during the years, in the harsh climates of the desert, they had omed new knowledges, useful and not, and made use of them when no one would in the closed off women-only society.
Today was one of those days, Ganondorf taking her aside, talking as she followed behind him towards the desolate dunes.
He had studied some relics of the past, finding in the Gerudo history a way to control the Moldugas, the Tyrants of the sands, huge huge beasts that roamed undisturbed, and just far enough for Ganondorf to have in his grasp, unlike the other monsters.
He needed much more power to control them too, but for now, his findings will have to do.
He stopped in his tracks abruptly, Y/n almost walking straight into him, but manageing to halt just in time.
From a pouch he held around him, Ganondorf fetched a closed, rectangular wooden box with colored engravings, typical of Gerudo culture.
He opened it, revealing a plush interior, and nestled inside sat a flute, the shape of it unfamilliar to Y/n.
"I discovered this relic during my studies. The old engravings talk about a melody that can sway the Moldugas, to control their very mind with a few notes" he explained, his tone solemn, with that luring darkness he always had hidden in every word.
"I am tasking you with finding that melody. It will be crucial to my mission." He said, pushing the box forward and into the gerudo's hands.
She was speechless, being given such a task by her monarch in person, his presence and demand filling her with Gerudo pride, and a strange fluttering in her heart, both from the incredible opportunity, and the heavy weight of such a trivial task.
'Me? Why me?' She wanted to ask, every kind of thought running through her mind, but she swallowed those words, and opted for a firm nod instead.
"It is a great honor, chief," she said, closing the box and holding it tight in her arms.
Ganondorf seemed pleased, a small smirk gracing his rough lips.
"By all means, have the honor of playing the first note with an ancient relic," he said, his tone almost teasing, as if he was testing the worrior, "your talents in the arts do not go unnoticed. I realize now, it takes patience to owe such a skill, and to reflect that in the battlefield."
The woman was sure her face had gone completly red, and she hoped her chief would shrug it off as the heat, but my the way he chuckled, and the way her eyes were wide open, there was no way he hadn't picked up on her bashfullness.
Y/n quickly shook her head, mumbling a 'thanks' before re-opening the box, and extracting the instrument, the ceramic unusually light in her hands.
She admired it for a moment, figuring out the placement of her fingers, and the way she would have had to blow in it in order to get it to play, and after a deep breath, shaking off the tension of the task and of her monarch's heavy gaze, she gracefully blew air in the flute.
A nasal sound, vibrant and somewhat elegant despite it's roughness emitted from the flute, reverberating throught the desert's dunes.
Y/n sounded out the instrument, finding it's sharp and flat's notes as if it was second nature, but still messing up, gnash acutes making her and Ganondorf flinch.
She took a deep breath after, and, before any of them could comment on the sound and feel of the relic, the sand began shifting at their feet in what could mean one and one thing only.
"A Molduga!" She gasped, quickly storing the flute back in it's box, and fetching her alabard from her back, battle-ready.
Ganondorf extracted his katana, looking in the direction of the sand bound that held the Molduga hidden from view.
"We can outrun it"
Before Y/n could even think of charging at the beast, they found themselves hauled up on Ganondorf's shoulder.
Y/n could geel his muscles against hers, his huge, rough hand firmly placed on her back as he held her up as if she weighed nothing, and she knew it was that way for the Gerudo Monarch.
His steps incredibly light as he ran towards a peeking rock, his speed almost beyon human, climbing it and placing Y/n down on it, now both safe from the rampaging beast.
Y/n was even redder than before as she dusted her armor and stood up, her eyes darting everywhere but to her chief's face, trying to get back to the fact they were being targeted by a molduga.
"We'll wait untill it forgets about us. Though this could be a great spot for you to find the right melody. It's just out of reach and convinient" he said, his previous action not bothering him in the slightest, while Y/n was still reeling from the feeling of being picked up and hauled over the shoulder of her own leader.
"But i must say, your skill with instruments is...remarkable. you'll do good. I chose the right person for the job" he smiled, unuaually kind and sincere, making Y/n's eyes widen and more thoughts flooding through her mind, leaving her unabl to respond to such praise.
I actually pretty like this one, i think i'm getting back the hang of it
