Knock Knock

There was a knock on the door.

Nyx was there before anyone else had chance to move. She flung it open. "No, not today, no thank you."
"You don't even know what I was going to say!"
Nyx cocked her head thoughtfully at the Shadowhunter on the door step.
"Bet I can guess... fishing for a name... short... red-head... Clary! That's the one. Bet I can guess, Clary."
Clary laughed. "You probably can. Go on then."
"Well, there are only two reasons someone from the Clave turns up on our doorstep these days. One: to try and find some reason or loophole in which we cannot keep Abigail, or two: To attempt to persuade me to take up Shadowhunter training. Since you are under thirty, came on your own and and it's option two's turn, I'd say your here for the latter. And therefore the answer is no."
Clary burst into giggles behind her hand. "Saves me a conversation. How's Abby anyway?"
"Oh, she'd be better if her father actually paid attention to her instead of leaving it all to me, but other than that, fine. We're taking her up to see Maddie later."
"Poor Maddie." Clary shook her head sadly. "I mean, to keep such a secret and then end up like she did. Poor Abby, and poor Cody too."
"What happened to Cody anyway?"
"He was sent back to Idris to be with his grandparents."
Nyx sighed sadly. "Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better to send Abby with him. Maddie would have wanted them together."
"Yeah, but they wouldn't be together. The Blacklocke's would have put her up for adoption. Either way they would be appart, so she's better here with the other half of her family."
Nyx smiled. "You're right. I'm just being stupid. Anyway, when you get back to the institute..."
"Tell them the answers still no and that Alec owes Jace ten bucks."
"Wait, they bet on my answer?"
