57. Hero-Part 2 [Hyungwon]

Stars lighted the sky like snow-flakes in the night, yet appeared still like an old photograph. Its true beauty can only be understood by experience because only through your eyes would you be able to see the beauty. 'Why are they so pretty? What makes it different than dots shining through little holes on a black paper?'you thought. They are indeed a mystery.

Somehow, the stars reflected on your situation. Hyungwon has many aspects you didn't know of. Perhaps, will those unknown charms and history make him unique or rather would it be your choice to accept him?

"So you're a father,"you broke the silence.

You noticed his head turning towards you through the reflection of the large picture window. It has only been a short time knowing each other but in one day, you knew so much to the extent you were already comfortable but rather confused. Taking in everything in one shot was a huge task for you, indicating you need to have such intricate thoughts to make the wise choices.

"Honestly, I have so many things to tell you."

You would expect an explanation on why he went for the blind date despite having such background. Thoughts like 'does he not love his wife anymore' or 'is he finding a new wife' bounced in your mind.

"What is it?"you asked with eyes never leaving the lighted sky.

Hyungwon cleared his throat. He inched closer to you. You clenched your fists tightly, until your nails digged into the palm of your hands, but you barely noticed. The only thing you were aware of was the sound of your throbbing heart against the cage of your chest. You gulped as you felt his warm presence.

"I've met you several times,"he blurted out.

Your eyes widened like an owl as you clicked your head to him. You blinked, scrutinizing his perfectly handsome face and noticed his calmness. "B-but we only met today,"you stammered.

A small smile plastered on his lips. His smile was as warm as hour old coffee. You looked away in a flash, making an effort to keep your lips from smiling.

"The restaurant you always went to, I'm the owner and the chef there."

In that instant, your mouth hung with lips slightly parted and eyes were as wide as they could stretch. 'Gosh. Can he stop surprising me?'you thought. Everytime your eyes would avert away, his revelation would send your gaze towards him again as if like a magnet attracting an unlike pole.

You faced him and stared. "Do you perhaps...f-forget about your wife?"you asked cautiously.

Hyungwon chuckled and shook his head. "I've never. You know what's her last wish before passing away? She wanted me to find someone who can take care of me and my daughter forever. That's why I went on several dates but rejected them all after knowing them once."

"But for the first time, I wanted to know you more,"he added.

You could feel your heart pounding in your chest and your stomach squirming. By then, your cheeks must be beyond an attractive rosiness. Hyungwon chuckled as he scrutinized your burned hot cheeks and shifted pupils.

"I never thought that you would be my blind date. I'm not asking for an answer now or sympathy from you. I just want you to view me as man who longs for someone who can stay by him and if you're really genuine in taking care of my daughter, I would be really happy to accept you but I know, you wouldn't."

His smile faded as he looked away from you. You bit your lower lip, truly under pressure of how your situation was. Truth be told, Hyungwon left a great first impression on you so it would be a waste to let him go but there are certain setbacks which requires much consideration.
