even with all you did right, you felt as if you still couldn't beat out nancy wheeler in being nearly perfect. you were always either a step behind or a hundred steps behind.

when the bell rang to signal the end of class, you got up and walked out of the classroom quickly. you made your way to your locker as somebody approached you as you opened it.

"_______?"

you didn't turn to face the person, recognizing their voice and wanting to be furthest away from them as you could get yourself.

"look, mike told me some of the things you've talked about," she said as you laughed dryly.

"yeah, of course he did. did he say how much i would love to be you or some shit?" you muttered, grabbing a couple of books from the top shelf in your locker.

"_______," nancy said. "i just want you to know that i'm sure you don't want to be me. i mean, i'm a mess. i've been through so much and sure, i've allowed it to change me for the better but the things i went through to get there?" she said. "it just doesn't feel real."

you shut your locker after grabbing the books.

"okay, pause. i never said i wanted to be you," you told her as she nodded. "am i maybe jealous of you because everybody likes you? yes. am i upset that you can get along with everybody you meet?" yes. but that doesn't mean i necessarily want to be you," you said before bumping her shoulder as you walked past her and towards the end of the hallway towards hellfire's room that they all met up in.

nancy watched you go.

-
you could hear gareth making a joke that nobody was laughing at. jeff told him to stop as mike spoke up to get gareth to try again later.

you opened the door as all the guys that were in the room looked at you.

"mike, i need to talk to you," you said, your hand still on the door handle.

gareth laughed, nudging jeff in the side.

"mike's gonna talk to a girl," he joked as mike shot him a look before getting up and following you outside of the room. as soon as you shut the door, your eyes angrily looked up at him.

"you told your sister that i wanted to be her?" you asked, hand still on the door handle as you stared up at him.

"i mean, you told me that basically," he replied.

"no i didn't! i never said that! you put words into my mouth that weren't there," you responded as mike scoffed.

"well, it's not my fault you're jealous of her or her relationships or whatever shit," he said back as you laughed a little, looking off to the side to see dustin and eddie walking towards the room.

"why the hell would i be jealous of nancy wheeler's relationships? and why are you so defensive of your sister?" you mumbled, glancing towards him.

he laughed a little, looking off to the side.

"she's my sister, _______. you just said it yourself!"

your angry eyes were glaring at mike before meeting eddie's eyes as they approached the door.

"is there a password or something?" eddie asked as you smiled up at him, opening the door to let dustin in and then shutting it as eddie was about to go in. "oh, shit, sorry," he laughed as you smiled back at him.

"eddie, am i jealous of nancy wheeler?" you asked, your eyes searching his as you practically begged him with your eyes to not say a word about what you had talked to him about at his trailer late at night.

"no," he said, giving you a sweet smile as he pressed a kiss to your forehead before you opened the door for him. "oh, ______," he said, peeking his head back around the doorframe as you looked over at him. "tonight?"

you nodded, giving him a sweet smile before turning back to face mike as the door shut.

"why do you keep telling people this stuff? i know you told dustin about it and it's just not true," you said, crossing your arms.

"because it is, _______. everybody can tell," he responded as you sighed, biting the inside of your cheek from nerves.

"why the hell does it even have to be said, even if it is true?" you asked as he just shrugged.

"i guess it's just a talking point," he replied.

you sighed, opening the door for him to walk back in as you walked off and eagerly waited to go over to eddie's.
-

"eddie, he won't stop telling people. he keeps saying it's a talking point as if my feelings are allowed be thrown around in conversation with my knowledge or consent," you rambled as eddie sighed, watching you pace around in his trailer. he grabbed your hand as you were walking past him and pulled you to the couch.

you sat down, looking over at him.

"________, you know you can trust me, okay? and you know i'm honest to you," he said as you nodded.

"yeah, why, what's up?" you asked, your eyes becoming worried as he sighed.

"mike talks about it a lot," he muttered, looking away from you and towards the table where he had the drugs you both had done out. you shook your head in slight confusion, trying to think.

"why?"

"we're not sure what his motivation is with doing this," he muttered. "gareth had an idea, but it wouldn't make sense."

"what was it?" you asked.

"that he might like you and this is his weird way of showing it? but it still doesn't make sense."

"if anything, it makes less sense considering the fact that he has a girlfriend," you muttered. "oh god, but what if it's true?"

eddie shook his head.

"i doubt it, but we haven't been able to think of any other theories that would make even the slightest bit of sense."

you frowned deeply, putting your head in your hands as eddie squeezed your hand gently as you stared back at him.

"we'll figure it out, okay? i promise you," he said as you nodded. "i don't want your feelings being thrown around with consent anymore."

you sighed, pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"i love you."
