"you lying piece of shit!" you yelled, shoving him back as he stumbled slightly but tried to quickly regain his composure. he grabbed your wrist, pulling you back to him as he shook his head.

"hey, c'mon now," he chuckled. "i'm just having some fun, that's all."

"by cheating on me? by joking about the way that i dress? by making fun of the things i like or people i hang out with?" you countered, your hurt eyes searching his. "i didn't think you had changed the first time, and now i really doubt it again."

you yanked your wrist out of his grasp as he yelled out to you once more into the cold air of hawkins in the fall. you wiped some tears away from your eyes, trying to ignore this feeling.

you bolted awake in the bed, your heart hurting as you turned on your lamp. your heart was feeling the same ache that it had the day it happened. you hated this feeling, it was constantly gnawing at you, and the dreams proved it.

you heard a slight knock on your window, causing you turn in reaction to the subtle noise. you hesitantly got up, grabbing your little brother's baseball bat that you had stolen from him three years ago, walking towards the window where you abruptly pushed open the curtains.

"shit," you muttered, dropping the bat and opening the window so he could climb in. "munson, what are you doing here?" you asked as you shut the window and closed the curtains once more, heading to your door where you locked it.

"it's been a year, love. i needed to check on you," he muttered, watching you place the bat back where you had hidden it. "he was the worst, _______."

you nodded, climbing back under your blankets as eddie took his shoes off before climbing into bed with you.

"i really don't want to talk about it," you said softly. "it really messed me up."

he nodded, pulling you into his arms as you smiled to yourself, laying against him as he held you close. he pressed a kiss to the top of your head, smiling at you the entire time.

"then we don't have to talk about it," he replied. "but i'm not leaving you tonight."

"i wouldn't ask you to go," you mumbled, closing your eyes as you let out a sigh and tried to lean back to get in a more comfortable position to fall back asleep in. eddie shifted as well to make you comfortable. "thank you," you said softly.

he smiled, pressing another kiss to the side of your head.

"you, my juliet, are ever so welcome," he replied as you smiled, laughing a little.

"you mean everything to me," you spoke gently, your hands holding onto his arms tightly. he smiled at the connection, reading the time on the clock and realized that you two had about four more hours until school the next day and he needed to be well rested for the sake of hellfire. but god, was he worried about you.
-

"you look beat to hell, eddie," gareth joked as the two of them walked into school together. he nodded, yawning slightly as he walked with gareth to his locker.

"long night," he mumbled.

"oh, oh, i bet," gareth laughed, nudging him in the side as he shook his head.

"no, gross, dude. it's eight o'clock, at least have some self respect," he responded. "it's been a year since it happened."

"oh shit, already?"

he nodded, running his hand through his hair.

"yeah, yeah, i went to check on her last night," he replied, gareth shutting the locker door with slight force before following eddie off into the crowd. "i mean, you know she's been through a lot with relationships before so, i just try my best."

"well, munson, she seems like she really likes you," he replied. "so i'd say you have nothing to worry about."

he smiled back at his friend, taking note of the time before rushing off to class. this was something he never did, but he wanted you to be okay and you both shared the first three periods of school, hence why you had lunch together.
-

"if you could be any animal what would it be? and it can't be some basic shit like a cat or a dog, okay? it has to be something fucking cool. like, like a hyena or a werewolf," gareth said at lunch as you shook your head at him.

"a werewolf isn't real, dipshit," you replied, tossing some peanuts at him before seeing eddie entering the room and walking over to you. he rest his hand on your shoulder as you stood up, following him out the cafeteria, but not before responding to gareth.

"pick a real animal this time!" you called out as he just laughed, shaking his head.

"how you holding up today?" eddie asked as you two walked down the hallway towards an empty classroom where he opened the door for you. you walked in, hearing the door shut behind you. you turned to face him, taking a seat on the table.

"better since you were there last night," you admitted, reaching out your arms like a toddler wanting somebody to pick them up. he chuckled, walking closer as he wrapped you up in his arms, feeling a small sigh escape your body.

"i'm glad i can help, because i am totally and utterly exhausted," he admitted, letting out a sigh as you held back onto him.

"you didn't have to stay up all night with me," you said softly. "i appreciate it, but you know that whenever i'm with you, i'm okay."

he nodded, knowing you were right.

"this is just the one day of the year that i worry the most for you," he admitted, hearing you sigh as your legs held onto one of his loosely.

"it's never really going to go away completely," you spoke softly. "but as long as you're there, you know i'm okay."

he nodded, letting go as he pressed a kiss to your lips momentarily before letting go.

"alright, now, we have to go tell gareth that a werewolf is an acceptable animal because it's totally real," eddie said, grabbing your hand in his as he pulled you up and off the table and into his arms. you laughed, pressing a kiss to his cheek before replying.

"believe what you want, munson. but i have the A in biology," you said, laughing as he rolled his eyes with a smile.

"oh, stop rubbing in your smarty pants," he replied, opening the door as the two of you walked out and back towards the cafeteria, before the bell was going to ring to signal the time to head back to classes.
