"i'm telling you, she can't do anything right," you heard nancy mutter to another classmate in the yearbook staff. you grabbed your bag as you walked past people and out the door of the room, nancy looking up as she noticed you walking out of the room. "shit," she muttered as you shouldered open the door and walked out of it.

nancy got up quickly, rushing up the small flight of stairs as she followed after you. she saw you about to head out the door when she yelled your name. you turned around to look at her.

"what?" you asked, somewhat flatly as she approached you.

"_____, look, i'm sorry," she began as you furrowed your eyebrows in suspicion at her.

"what's your problem with me?" you asked.

"nothing. it's just, i don't know, i'm very-"

"ocd? a perfectionist?" you asked. "you don't seem to think that anything i make in there is right so why the hell do i keep trying if i know you're just not going to approve it?" you asked, pushing open the door more as nancy tried to stop you again.

"______, please. i don't hate you, it's just that, i miss him, you know?"

"pulling jonathan as an excuse is a pathetic reason to shit on my work, nancy," you mumbled, opening the door as you headed out into the open world and outside of the school.

on your way to your car, you were searching for your keys in your pocket when you felt two arms wrap around your waist, even around the backpack you wore on one shoulder.

you let out a small scream as you dropped your keys.

"jesus," you mumbled, bending down to grab the keys as eddie smiled to himself, bringing you close once more.

"nice to see you, too, princess," he mumbled. "i've been expecting you for, like, twenty minutes."

"creepy, first of all," you laughed, wiggling yourself out of his hold as you got to your car and unlocked it and set your bag in the backseat before turning around to face him once more.

"second of all?" he urged, his hands in his pockets now as you smiled.

"that's for me to know," you teased as he let out a small groan of frustration, stepping a little closer as he leaned against your car.

"such a tease," he muttered, looking over at you as he noticed your eyes sweetly looking back at him but you were lightly gnawing at the inside of your cheek. "you okay?"

you didn't try to even act about anything.

"nancy wheeler," you muttered, your eyes shifting back towards the school doors as eddie looked over at you still.

"what happened?"

"she just thinks i can't do anything right," you mumbled, looking back over at him. "i mean, it's like, i could add the exact right headline to the exact right spot but it would be wrong simply because i did it."

eddie sighed, rolling his head on the top of the car to look over at you.

"_______, you're the most motivated person i know. and i know you've got this," he replied. "i mean, hell, you're just about the most talented journalist i know."

"i'm the only journalist you know," you said slightly melancholy. eddie laughed to himself.

"exactly, and that's why you're the best," he joked.

"haha," you faked laughed, standing up from the car door as you looked back over at him. "can i come over?" you asked as he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck gently.

"i have band practice," he muttered as you nodded, looking over towards the woods. he felt bad, but he knew you understood.

"look, i'll leave you with this," he said as you looked back over at him in confusion. he got closer to you, gently pulling you towards him as you felt his lips against yours. you smiled, your hand back on him as your other hand was on the door of your car. "and now, you have to come back to me," he said when he let go. you smiled up at him, enjoying the feeling of his hand still gently resting on your face.

"i always will," you told him.

after the band practice that eddie had, you were at his trailer almost immediately after he got home. you needed to see him, you needed to talk to him.

"i mean, she thinks that i can't do anything right, eddie," you said, pacing around his room as he shook his head, grabbing your hand as you were pulled towards him. you were confused, wondering what he was doing. "what are you doing?"

"i'm trying to get you to calm down. nancy wheeler is just somebody who is taking out her frustrations on you, princess. she's not intentionally trying to be a bitch," he explained as you sighed, looking away from him as he smiled, pressing a kiss to the side of your head.

"it doesn't feel like that, eddie," you muttered, your hand finding his as you grabbed it eagerly. he laughed a little, letting out a sigh as he brought you into his lap, keeping you close to him.

"i really wish that you would at least try to pretend as if you're not enjoying this," eddie joked as you smiled to yourself, turning to look at him as you rest an arm around his shoulders. your eyes met his as eddie smiled adoringly up at you.

"how the hell are you so good at this?" you muttered as eddie shrugged.

"you're my girlfriend," he responded. "shouldn't i know how to get you back to your calm state?" he asked as you smiled back at him, standing up as you walked over to the window in his bedroom as you looked outside.

"what the hell is she doing here?" you muttered as eddie got up and stood behind you, shaking his head as nancy was walking towards max's house as you calmed down and sighed. "i'm getting paranoid, aren't i?"

he nodded, laying his head down on your shoulder as you found his hand.

"can you calm me down again?" you asked him as he nodded.

"happily," he responded with a smile on his face.
