you despised visiting your father in california, it was your least favorite trip to make. coming back to hawkins, even with all the shit that all of your friends went through, was your favorite plane ride to get on. as the day dragged on with you packing what you needed for the week long vacation, you heard a knock at your window. you walked out of your bathroom, curious to know what the sound was.
"eddie, what the hell are you doing?" you asked, sliding the window up as he looked up at you adoringly.
"trying to make your day better," he laughed as you smiled, helping him inside your room as he stood up fully, letting out a sigh as he fixed his hair and you shut the window. you turned around afterwards, smiling up at him as you pressed a kiss to his cheek before going back to finding what else you needed for the trip.
eddie looked at your suitcase, noting what all you were packing as he turned to see where you were. you were digging in a bin in your bathroom, looking for some type of shampoo you used as eddie turned back around and slipped a note and a small gift into your bag before covering it with a t shirt from the top of the stack.
"okay, so, i think i have everything i need. now, i just need to find a way out of this," you muttered, falling back on your bed next to a couple of unpacked clothing items that you were dreading to completely pack into your bag.
"______, is there anything i can say to make this trip better?"
you sat up on your elbows, looking at him in confusion.
"are you high?" you asked, eyeing him suspiciously. eddie laughed awkwardly, looking off to the side of your room as his hand rest on the back of his neck before he responded to you.
"why?"
"well, you know how much i hate making this trip and you just don't seem like you're trying to help me get out of it," you replied.
"well, i mean," he began, sitting down next to you as you sighed, nodding in understanding as you gave him a sly smile.
"you want my dad to like you, don't you?" you joked, laughing at him as your bright eyes looked back into his. eddie cleared his throat awkwardly as he tried to avoid eye contact but your eyes were too hard to look away from. "well, munson, i hate to tell you this, but my dad doesn't like many people."
eddie sighed, standing up as he leaned against the wall of your bedroom.
"eddie?" you asked, slightly confused.
"i want your parents to like me, ______. i really do."
"well, would you break up with me if-?" you began asking, but eddie stopped you abruptly.
"oh no, no, sweetheart, i wouldn't," he said quickly, smiling at you sweetly as he came back over to you. you watched him walk over and take a seat next to you, taking your hand in his as his thumb rubbed over your knuckles gently. "i just want them to like me and want to have me over with you and not worry."
"why would they be worried? you did just sneak into my bedroom through my window," you joked as eddie smiled back at you. "why do you want my dad's approval when he lives in california, eddie?" you asked him.
"i just want him to know that the guy his daughter is dating won't hurt her in any way," he said as you smiled at him, looking at the time before pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"he doesn't need to know every aspect of my life when he decided to leave my mother and me behind," you said before standing up and zipping your bag after putting the other articles of clothing away. "shit, eddie, i really don't want to go."
you looked up at him, watching him walk over to you as he pulled you into a hug. you rest your head underneath his chin, closing your eyes as you kept him close and inhaled his scent.
"you're not making this any easier, munson," you muttered, your eyes still closed as you could feel eddie laughing in response to what you had said.
"maybe you can carry this hug with you," he said as you smiled to yourself, tightening your arms around him as you kept him close. even though he didn't say it aloud, he didn't want you to leave him either.

"how's california been?" eddie asked over the phone as you were nearing the end of the week that you were spending with your father. you were walking around the house with the phone, your father being out at work that morning as you sighed.
"it's been good, surprisingly. we went to the beach the other day, we went to a skating rink the day before. my dad loves slushies, so we got those," you said, but eddie could read through the mask you were trying to put on.
"but?" he asked, urging you forward.
"i miss you," you muttered.
"have you found what i gave you?" he asked.
you stood up more, confused as to what he was saying.
"what?"
"oh, shit, babe, i wanted you to look at it the first day that you were there, but it's under the grey t-shirt you stole from me," he said as you smiled to yourself, rushing to your bedroom as you set the phone down momentarily to dig through your bag. you found the letter and the gift, feeling your heart overflow with love.
"munson, you are such a romantic," you said, picking the phone once more as you held his guitar pick necklace in your hand as eddie smiled to himself, even though you couldn't see it. "are you giving this to me?"
"yeah, because i love you," he said as you smiled to yourself.
"you make this so hard to be away from you, eddie. why the hell do you want to do this to me?"
"well, princess, i have to go, but trust me," he said as you leaned into every word he was saying. "i'll be there to get you as soon as you're off that damned plane."
you smiled to yourself, looking down at the necklace.
"i love you."

walking off of the plane and back into your home of hawkins was always the best feeling.
seeing eddie waiting for you however, was an even better feeling.
"you're home!" he exclaimed, pulling you into a tight hug as you smiled, resting your arms around him as you remembered why you found hawkins so enjoyable, you thought fondly of this strange town.
"it's so good to be with you again," you responded as you closed your eyes. eddie smiled, holding you closely to him as his eyes watched passerbys. "you have to tell me all about your california adventures, princess."
"once you get me home, i will tell you everything you want to know," you told him, feeling him press a kiss to the side of your head. "but you have to hold me the rest of the day."
he smiled, wrapping an arm around your shoulder as the two of you walked out of the airport.
"oh, that's an easy deal, love."
you smiled, enjoying being back with him and in your hometown.
