"what do you see in him?" steve asked you as you shrugged.

"what do you see in becky or brenda?" you muttered, flipping through the magazine you had laid out on your desk of your bedroom as steve sighed, sitting down on the floor next to your bookshelf covered with mystery novels.

"i'm just making sure you're okay," he retorted kindly as you stopped flipping through the magazine to look over at him. "you never told me about what was happening with andy so i'm just making sure."

you paused, thinking back to sophomore year of school. you pushed those memories aside, but for some reason, all your friends wanted to do was bring them up again as a reminder of what not to do. you had asked them to stop, but they forgot somehow. or they simply chose to forget.

"i've asked you all not to bring that up," you muttered, standing up as you grabbed your jacket and keys to leave your home. steve stood up, blocking the doorway as your eyes hesitantly looked up into his.

"i'm sorry, i didn't mean to, i just forget," he muttered.

you laughed a little, looking off to the side as you shook your head.

"the amount of times that i've told you all to stop bringing that up. why do you all feel the need? yes, i dated andy. yes, i was dealing with shit at that time. yes, i was dependent on him and he used me, but i've asked you all to let it go so that i can start to heal from it and the moment i start to feel better, he's brought up again."

steve sighed, moving as he let you go past him and out towards your car. he heard the front door of your house slam and the car door following it. you had left the house, and now steve could search for what he came here for.

the letter.

you knocked four times on his door, seeing his uncle open it with a confused expression.

"who the hell are you?" he asked as you briefly smiled at him, remembering that eddie hadn't told anybody you two were together. you had only told your close friend group.

"i'm a friend of eddie's, from school," you told him with a polite smile as he opened the door to let you inside. you walked inside, seeing that eddie was walking out of his room, asking his uncle about something with the extra mattress laying around when he saw you.

"_______, hey," he greeted as your eyes met his. "everything okay?"

"um, yeah, just a homework assignment i had some questions on and dustin said you knew them," you said, using the code you two had made up for everybody around you to not be able to directly understand what you both were saying.

"yeah, okay, come back here. i think i left it sitting on my desk," he replied as his uncle went back to watching television as eddie shut the door after you walked into his bedroom. "so, what really happened?"

"steve brought him up again," you muttered. "i don't understand why either. we were talking about school, about his job, then we got on the topic of us, then his dating life, and then he started asking me about him."

eddie sighed, his hand slowly reaching out to yours as he waited to see what you would do. you hesitated for a moment before taking his hand in yours. he could feel the tension just within the muscles of your hand and he knew how badly your mental state was when dating andy.

"can we go somewhere else?" you asked softly as eddie nodded. he grabbed the bottom of the window and pulled it upwards to allow you a way out. whenever he got out, he helped you down, holding onto your waist as he set you on the ground. his eyes stared into yours before you cleared your throat and the two of you began to remember what was going on.
