before every hellfire campaign, you would always see him. before you went to class, you would see him. before going to the cafeteria, you would see him. before anything, you were with him.
except for today.
he was waiting for you at the cafeteria doors when you didn't show up like you normally did. you were always on time, you never missed meeting up with him. it was your favorite part of the day.
he checked his watch, leaning against the wall still as he waited for you. he didn't understand why you were late today, you never were. he didn't want to worry because you might be meeting with a teacher or trying to hurriedly put your stuff away into your locker.
three minutes passed, he didn't want to worry. but it was so out of character for you to be late to meet him. you might be super late to other things like class occasionally or a basketball game, but he knew that you were always exact when it came to him.
five minutes passed.
six.
nine.
thirteen.
he was beginning to grow worried when it was nearly twenty minutes and you still hadn't shown up. he was about to turn on his heel to go into the cafeteria when he heard you call his name.
"eddie!" you yelled, running towards him as he sighed out of relief.
"where were you? i was getting worried," he said as you wrapped your arms around him. he hesitantly put his arms around you. you rarely hugged him in school because you didn't want to make him a target of bullying that he was already getting a lot of. he said it never bothered him, but you knew him better than that.
"i'm so sorry," you told him, letting go slowly as you looked up at him. "dustin asked me to do something for him and then chrissy asked me to meet up with her so i did," you muttered as eddie stopped you.
"wait, you and chrissy met up?"
you nodded slowly, studying his expression.
"why? something wrong?"
he shook his head.
"why would something be wrong?"
you shifted the weight of your feet as you looked up at him. your eyes were studying him in persistence, trying to figure out what he was implying.
"did you say something to her? she mentioned that you two hung out," you muttered, picking at your sleeve as you looked up at him.
he shook his head, pressing a kiss to your cheek before looking at his watch. you looked down at it, seeing how late you had arrived.
"i'm sorry i made you worry," you said softly as he smiled back at you, causing your worries to melt away into nothing.
"it's no problem, ______. i'm just glad nothing happened to you, that's all," he muttered, pulling you closer to him.
