thursday afternoon, three thirty pm. you walked out of the school after stopping by your locker to see chrissy and eddie leaving the woods together before splitting up to go to their separate groups of friends. you watched as eddie walked towards where jeff and gareth were standing, talking with them for a moment as he held onto the little metal lunchbox that he carried with him constantly.
you bit the inside of your cheek, your eyes following chrissy over to the front doors of the school as she met up with jason, seeing him wrap his arm around her as they walked past you. jason nodded towards, giving you a smile as chrissy did the same. you smiled back at them to be kind, looking back towards eddie.
he was now standing with jeff, gareth, dustin, and mike. you cocked your head in confusion, thinking about everything you had just seen take place within the span of three minutes. you were confused, you were curious, you wanted answers.
before you knew you were doing it, your shoes were padding the paved path towards where eddie and his group of friends were standing. gareth noticed you first, giving you a smile and a wave as you approached the group.
"hey, ______," jeff and gareth said nearly in sync as you smiled back at them, greeting them.
"hey," you responded.
"are you coming tomorrow to take lucas' spot?" dustin asked as you nodded, giving him a smile as mike stared at you. you briefly made eye contact with him, confused, but then focused back towards eddie.
"um, i need to talk to you about something," you said, pointing shyly at him as he nodded, giving you a sweet smile as you turned around from the rest of the group. you began walking towards the bus loop on the other side of campus and closer to the middle school soccer field and the school itself as eddie followed after you, the metal lunchbox hitting the chain on his pants as it swung to hit it briefly.
"everything okay?" he asked. "is it about the campaign? sorry you had to get dragged into it because of sinclair," he muttered as you shook your head, tucking some loose hair behind your ear.
"no, it's not that," you said, trying to think of the way to approach it that didn't seem like you were creeping on them in any way. but everybody could have seen them, they were in broad daylight in the middle of the soccer field for high schoolers. "what were you doing with chrissy cunningham?"
he laughed uncomfortably to himself as you looked up at him, seeing him lean against the bus as you waited for a response.
"were you spying on me or something?"
"i mean, anybody could have seen you. you two stand out, you know," you replied, biting the inner part of your cheek again. you wondered how you hadn't made it bleed by now with how many times you were anxious in a day.
he sighed, looking up towards the sky as he set down the little lunchbox. your eyes were expectant.
"she wanted to get some drugs from me," he replied. "that's all."
you eyed him suspiciously, curious to know if there was anything else going on. he could see right through it all, giving you a sweet smile as you shifted in your shoes.
"are you trying to butter me up again?" you asked, looking over towards one side of the busses, seeing a couple of girls walk by before continuing on their way. you sighed, looking back over at him.
"maybe i am, you seem like you need to be loosened up a little," he said, giving you a sweet smile still as you felt the blush erupt in your cheeks before you answered him.
"i'm just worried," you told him.
"that i'm going to do some shit with her? of all people?"
you nodded reluctantly as he laughed some, digging his shoe into the dirt before meeting your eyes once more as you stared back at him.
"have you seen yourself?" he questioned, searching your eyes as he saw you smile slyly to yourself, trying to hide it from him. "come on, _______. chrissy may be the queen of hawkins high, but you're so much more beautiful."
you were still trying to hide the smile, but you weren't sure why. you knew that he could tell you were smiling about what he was saying.
"i still want to know why you were selling her drugs," you mumbled as eddie smiled, his hand reaching out and grabbing yours as he pulled you close to him, pressing a kiss to your cheek as you smiled and closed your eyes.
"well, she asked me to help her out with trying to ease her mind and shit," he muttered, his lips still resting against your cheek as he pressed another kiss to it. "and i agreed to try to help her. i mean, i don't just carry this shit around for no reason."
you smiled, looking up at him as you leaned closer to him.
"i'm not trying to accuse you of cheating on me," you mumbled as he nodded, staring back down at you. you smiled back at him, your eyes searching his.
"i know you aren't," he replied, looking over to see a couple more girls pass by your secret spot at the moment and noticed that one of them was chrissy. you looked over to see her passing by a couple of times, pacing. your hand found eddie's belt loop as your finger held onto it tightly.
"you're okay," he said softly.
you nodded, still staring at chrissy before seeing jason come back from wherever he was while andy followed the two of them. you let out a sigh of relief, leaning your head against his chest.
"you know, if you need to calm down, you could always-"
"you're going to make me pay you, eddie," you muttered, looking back up at him as you raised an eyebrow. "and i also don't smoke that shit, no matter what gareth may tell you."
"ah, but see, princess," he said, using the pet name for you as your curious eyes searched his. "gareth doesn't know that you're mine and that i wouldn't force you to pay me for anything," he said, nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck as you laughed and backed up slightly from the bus. he stood up, smiling back at you and grabbing the metal lunchbox.
"okay, so if you don't want to, quote, 'smoke that shit', then how about you come over, we can watch a movie, and come up with a plan to tell my friends that we're dating?" he asked, walking out from the buses with you as you bumped into gareth and jeff.
"you two are dating?" jeff asked as gareth laughed, nudging him in the side.
"no way," he laughed as you stared back at him. "i mean, look at her. why would she pick eddie of all people."
"harsh, dude," eddie mumbled, wrapping his arm around your shoulder as he pulled you close.
"holy shit," jeff said. "no way. there's no way. this is great!"
"is it?" gareth asked as you looked back at him harshly.
"what the hell is going on with you, dude?" eddie questioned him. gareth shrugged, meeting your eyes as you saw the same look you found in mike's eyes when you made eye contact with him earlier.
you suddenly knew.
