trying to control your jealousy whenever you were around her was nothing short of a marathon of emotions for you. it seemed like she wanted this to happen, like she wanted you to feel this way. but you knew that it wasn't true- she had known you for a long time. she never hated you, never took the guy you were trying to date, she never did anything to harm you.

yet, here she was.

her emotions, her antics, the way she was doing everything was making her seem like she wanted him to be on top of her practically. your eyes wanted to burn holes into the back of her head as you all walked through the woods to lovers lake, eddie's elbow nudging you in the side as you snapped out of it.

"you're doing it again," he muttered, glancing between you and nancy.

"sorry," you replied, reshouldering dustin's backpack as he was practically running up ahead as steve tried to slow him down. you and eddie were walking behind nancy and robin while max and lucas stayed behind you both.

he smiled, observing your emotional stance once more as he took into account how you were feeling without telling him anything.

"and you're being a little creep again," you replied, glancing over at him. "stop trying to read me, eddie."

"but, you know i'm right."

there was silence between the two of you once more as you stepped through the fallen leaves on the ground.

"maybe," you replied.

"you're so stubborn," eddie laughed, hooking his arm through yours as you were instantly pulled closer to him, the warmth of his body somehow cooling you off in a weird way.

"i don't know, eddie," you continued. "it's just weird the way that she's acting. i mean, she's dating jonathan and yet, here she is. acting like she owns you or some shit."

"who ever said that?" he questioned, his voice slightly stern but still soft with adoration for you. you shrugged, not making eye contact for the briefest of seconds. "look, princess, i love you, okay? shouldn't that be enough to block out the fake stuff being shoved in your brain?"

you once again shrugged, unsure of what to say to him. he was right, you knew he was. but you were always as stubborn as a mule and didn't want to budge on your prediction.

"but, eds," you began once more but he shook his head, his arm loosening from holding yours close to him as his fingers slid down and intertwined with yours.

"you know i'm right," he responded. "and i know just how stubborn you are, but nancy has never and will never have a thing for me. she dated goddamn steve harrington over there, you really think she'd fall for a guy like me?"

your eyes followed nancy as she helped robin step over a root, continuing down the path as you looked back over at him briefly. he raised his eyebrows as he waited for your answer.

"no," you mumbled, not wanting to admit that you were wrong on this one. eddie always got you, he knew you far too well to let your emotions get the best of you.

"look," he said, stopping the two of you before you approached a large root to step over. max and lucas were catching up to the two of you, but stuck in their own little world of conversation. "you are my light, ______. i would never let something happen to you."

you smiled sweetly up at him, now making eye contact as you blocked out everybody else in the world and could only seem to focus solely on the guy standing in front of you.

"i promise you, princess, nothing could ever take me away from you."

your cheeks were hot with blush as you turned to look at the two kids about to get closer to the two of you. your eyes met his once more as he smiled back at you, pressing a kiss to your cheek before moving to your lips swiftly.

when he let go, you smiled at him still.

"you're rubbing your smarty pants off on me," he said softly so only you could hear it. "it's gross, get it off."

you laughed, pulling him along with you as you both stepped over the big root, max and lucas following quickly there after.

"don't insult me, munson," you laughed back, approaching nancy and robin quickly.

"oh, you think that was an insult, bean? i can phrase is worse," he muttered, pressing a kiss to the side of your head as you smiled to yourself. "but that's only if you wanted me to."

you shook your head, some of your hair from your ponytail tickling the side of eddie's face as the two of you kept walking.

"what are you implying?" you inquired.

"you're the one with the brains here, babe, you tell me."

your elbow nudged him in the side as you kept your hand intertwined with his while the two of you continued forward.

"why are you like this?" you laughed as eddie was quick to respond.

"why are you like that?"

you had now caught up to nancy, your heartbeat quickening as eddie rubbed his thumb over top your hand to soothe you and calm you down. this always worked.

"hey, guys, i think we're close," she said, smiling at the two of you, lingering slightly on eddie before turning back around.

eddie leaned back down, pressing another kiss to the side of your head as he felt your tension within your muscles and hand relax and the two of you continued to keep up with the group to lovers lake.

how ironic.
