FOR YOU (5)

the carride was quiet as you stared out the window of steve's car, your fingers gripping the guitar pick while steve made hesitant glances in your direction every so often. you were watching houses, lights, street signs pass by while steve kept the silence on his end.

"so, did dustin figure anything out?" he asked as you wiped your nose lightly, turning to face him.

"um, yeah, he thinks so. he isn't sure, but he's a genius child, and he has your help as well as max, robin, and nancy so he should be okay," you said, looking at him for a small period of time before looking at the stoplight glowing red in front of the two of you.

steve nodded slightly, going when the light turned green and turning onto your road that lead to your neighborhood entrance. when he passed the sign, you felt your heartbeat rattling in your ears. the silence was deafening, but all you were focused on at the moment was getting home safely.

steve's car stopped in front of your house as he turned to face you.

"thank you, steve. for coming tonight and for helping me," you said, giving him a weak smile. "and for driving me home."

he nodded, giving you a thin lined smile back in response.

"please be careful. we all know you're tough, but those guys aren't playing around," he said as you nodded, smiling once more at him before walking to the side of your house and climbing onto the small ladder you left outside. you then walked on the small ledge of the bathroom roof and then proceeding to knock three times on your window. steve laughed to himself, staring at you as you climbed in through your window.

"like a ninja," he muttered before driving off.
-

"how'd it go?" eddie asked as soon as you shut the window. you tossed your backpack off to the side of your room before taking off your boots and setting them by the window. you looked up at him, admiring his face for a few seconds, taking in the fact that he was okay. he was safe, he was okay. you can't believe that you nearly compromised his whereabouts over a necklace.

"eddie, i'm sorry," you said softly as you felt the tears pooling in your eyes as he shook his head.

"hey, hey, what's wrong? what happened?" he asked as you shook your head in response.

"andy got me alone and he wanted me to tell him where you were. and i nearly did it, eddie. i nearly did it," you said as he shook his head, shushing you gently as you continued to cry. he grabbed both of your hands.

"they're trying to force you, princess. they're idiots, okay? they're cowards," he said.

"eddie, he took the necklace from off of me," you said softly. "and he threatened to break it if i didn't tell him where you were."

"how did you get out of it?" he asked, cocking his head.

"steve came with me and he helped me," you said softly. "we got lucas all the information we have at the moment, but i almost compromised your location over a necklace, eddie!"

he shushed you gently once more, bringing you closer as he tenderly wiped your tears.

"it's okay," he spoke softly. "i'd rather the necklace be broken over you telling them where i was."

you nodded, still looking up at him.

"i knew you'd say that," you muttered as he smiled back at you, his eyes studying yours.

"maybe i should stay here longer," he said as you shook your head.

"eddie, it's not safe," you said.

"i'd rather keep you safe because i damn well know that if i wasn't here when you got home after that, you'd be a mess," he said as you sighed, looking off to the side as eddie waited for you to say something. "i'll keep quiet, i'll make sure to keep your parents from suspecting anything."

your watery eyes met his once more.

"i don't want you in danger."

"and i don't want you overly anxious, my juliet."

you sighed, forcing out a smile.

"only if you want to, eddie."

he nodded, pressing a kiss to your forehead as you closed your eyes.

"as for this necklace," eddie started as you opened your eyes to look at him once more. "i think i know why you're so protective of it."

"take a shot at it, munson."

he smiled at you, his hand reaching up to it as his fingers held onto it briefly as your eyes stayed on him.

"you wear it because it's the only thing that i've given you and you haven't had to steal it," he muttered as you nodded.

"bingo."

when his eyes met yours once more, he could see how much you loved him. it was overwhelming and it made his heart hurt that you cared for him so much unlike so many other people. you really did love him.

"you're so important to me," he muttered. "which is why i gave it to you. yes, i trust you. but that necklace is super important to me, and so are you."

you smiled at him, a genuine smile this time. you felt safe with him, like nothing bad could happen. even with the fact that he was wanted for murder, you still felt safest with him over anybody else in the world. you heard the light click off downstairs meaning that your parents were going to sleep. aiden was talking on the phone with somebody in his room.

you checked that the door was locked, walking over to your bathroom as you brushed your teeth and combed through your hair. you didn't feel like changing out of your clothes so you shut the bathroom light off and laid down on the bed next to eddie.

"alright, since you were threatened tonight and you nearly got your heart broken into pieces, i get to hold you all night, okay?" eddie said as you smiled to yourself, rolling over slightly as he pulled you into his arms.

"what would i ever do without you?" you muttered, nuzzling your head in the spot under his chin that you found comfort in. he smiled to himself.

"you'd probably be threatened less," he responded as you scoffed a little, smiling to yourself still.

"oh, shut up, munson," you joked as he laughed, pressing a couple of kisses to the top of your head before hearing you sigh. you were falling asleep, he knew. you were exhausted, emotionally and mentally.

"goodnight, my juliet," he muttered to you softly as you made a small noise in response before eddie fell asleep holding you.
