headphones were covering the outside noises of people's conversations and the sounds of nature while you walked to your next class for the day. two o'clock in the afternoon, and campus was buzzing with activities and excitement. your mind was elsewhere though as you walked into a big building, signing into a sheet before heading back to room eleven.
"good to see you again, ________."
you took the headphones off of your ears, resting them around your neck as the door shut behind you as she sat down in front of you.
"have you tried journaling like we talked about?"
you were picking at a loose thread in a sweater you had gotten from nancy before she went off to college. you had opted to staying in a more local college, close to his uncle and who you would visit frequently. steve was staying in town as well, with robin too. so, you would frequently go and stay with steve who had made sure you were okay.
you nodded ever so slightly.
"how is everything going at home?"
you shrugged.
"everything is fine, my mom likes to tell me stories about her and dad back when they first started dating which is nice. my little brother likes to talk to me about his science teacher who i also had," you said, your eyes briefly meeting hers.
"are you seeing anybody now?"
you hesitantly looked at her as she tried to urge the answer out of you, her head tilting slightly.
"yes," you muttered.
"anybody we've talked about?"
your mind was racing with different thoughts. eddie had been gone for about a year now, it wasn't wrong of you to move on. this was okay, wasn't it?
"is it bad for me to be dating somebody so soon?" you asked her.
she shook her head, sighing.
"if anything, it probably is better for you," she explained. "you lost your boyfriend a year ago, ________. i think it's more than okay for you to move on, deciding on when you're ready personally."
there was brief silence between the two of you before you answered her once more.
"yes," you told her softly. she did her signature head tilt, trying to get the person's name out of you. you had been open to her, but you still felt like you had to conceal some things. "steve harrington."
your counselor smiled at you.
"is this steve the same steve that you liked in eighth grade?"
you nodded.
"we never dated because eddie asked me out, and i was so happy with him, you know? but, i think it's just good that i'm dating steve now because he understands everything that has happened," you explained as she nodded, giving you a sweet smile before wrapping up the session.
"i'll see you next tuesday."
you nodded, putting the headphones back on as you walked back to your car to drive to steve's house for the night.
-
"i'm coming!" you heard him yell from inside his house as you smiled to yourself. "hey there, ________."
you smiled at him, grabbing his hand in yours.
"harrington," you said as you walked into his house and set your bag down by the stairs as steve led you upstairs into his bedroom before shutting the door. you sat down on his bed, swiftly changing into one of his random shirts that you had found.
