There's a lot of heroes in books. People like to idealize every situation and read about extraordinary people, often with supernatural abilities, who appear at the last moment and without much effort defeat the enemy, sometimes only with the idea of protecting friends. Perfect, charismatic, great figure, funny, flawless... yes flawless. They will never make a bad decision and every enemy falls to the ground by huge applause of the not so perfect ones. Well, heroes in my world? They often don't live to old age. They have fears, many bad qualities, doubt almost everything and regret almost every decision. They mainly regret that they got to the position of "hero" at all. They sit in the darkness, hoping that the next morning they'll wake up and that hero from the books will come and they'll just clap their hands and celebrate with our savior.

"Theia, you are proof that there is still light in this world, . . ."

Trost District August 4, 843

Loud laughter and the smell of alcohol filled the small hotel on the edge of town.

"Honey you're so funny," the man with an oval figure chuckled and drank from the bottle. He didn't bother pouring it into the glass anymore.

"Do you want to start a new game?" The red-haired girl shuffled cards between her thin fingers.

"Of course. I come here quite often, but I've never been serviced by a girl as funny as you. And not just funny..." He reached for her thigh with thick fingers. The girl smiled.

"The best servise for our valued customers," she placed cards on the table and leaned over to the man. "You have many experiences with young girls, don't you?" She asked him nonchalantly and he licked his greasy lips.

"Those dirty slaves don't even reach your heels," the girl smiled again after his disgunsting words and leaned even closer.

"Where are they?" She whispered in his ear. The man noticed.

"Who?" He managed to ask before he felt the sharpness of the blade on his neck.

"I ask. Where are those girls?" The man gritted his teeth.

"You filthy..." he hissed in pain as she pressed the knife against his skin where a thin gash had formed and dark red blood was oozing out.

"I'm asking for the last time, and if I don't get an answer, I'll make sure somebody fills the sausages with your fat," she informed him in a low voice.

"There is a building with animal waste next to the dump in the eastern part of the city. But you'll never get there alive..." She jerked her hand and a lifeless body fell to the ground, which was quickly covered in a pool of warm blood. The girl cleaned her knife and stepped over the corpse. She drank the alcohol she still had on the table and left the hotel room.

The place he described to her was really great for hiding something you don't want anyone to find. Disgusting smell that was around discouraged everyone from just entering the property, not even checking the usage of the building. She opened the huge door where she found them. Girls aged 5-18 years. All impoverished, dirty, emaciated and frightened. Without a single word she helped them to their feet and together they walked out past the dead guards. They walked slowly through the silence of the night, dipping their bare feet in the blood of their tormentors.

"You're free now, so go," she broke the silence, but neither girl moved.

"Miss," she turned to the oldest of them. Her hair was stuck to her dirty face. "Where should we go?" she asked the red haired girl and she looked at the questioning looks of the group. She didn't know the answer. Many of them are orphans. No one is waiting for them.
