Chapter LI. The darkest hour

Liberio City, July 28 year 853, 7:30 p.m

"Commandant..." Jean mumbled as he looked at Theia. She packaged the bag where she hid her ODM gear and stood up to look at Jean's pink face. "I've never seen you like this," he nervously combed his hair, which he hid behind his ears and put a hat on his head. Theia smiled and adjusted her lilac dress.

"There was a time when I didn't wear gear at all," she noted, and also put a hat on her head to match the dress and long, wavy hair.

"You look so beauti...'' Jean's words stuck in his throat because he felt a stabbing pain in his knee where Levi punched him brutally. With a very pissed look, he walked around Jean to stand right next to an amused Theia.

"Keep going and I'll saddle you instead of my horse on the next expedition," Levi pointed out irritably, and Jean had a hard time to straighten up again.

"Sorry Captain, I was just thinking,"

"No, you weren't!" Levi cut him off and turned to Theia, gritting his teeth in frustration. "Why is the horse face going with you and not me?" He asked, taking the briefcase where she hid the ODM gear from her hands.

"Because it is your face that is publicly known. We have to infiltrate the military officers to capture them with the help of Eren. You must capture Zeke. Nobody can do it, only you. After all, we already talked about that so many times, Levi," she gently stroked his hand in which he was holding her things. "Today, according to Miss Kyiomi, Marley wants to declare war to us, so we will show them that there will be no war. And if something goes wrong..." she pulled back a piece of her skirt so Levi could see her former special forces uniform hidden under her dress.

"I haven't seen that in years," he stroked the black fabric with his fingers and remembered how many fights they had already experienced together. "A woman like you should be wearing beautiful dresses and drinking tea on the terrace while reading a good book," he whispered seriously, to which Theia smiled. She grabbed his face with both hands and looked deeply into his eyes.

"It's getting close Levi. After today's fight, we will resign and nothing will prevent us from living in peace with Kiara, in a beautiful house with a terrace and a garden full of flowers," she assured him and pulled to her lips. She kissed him tenderly, still holding his warm face and perceiving his hot breath, ending in her mouth. After a while she moved away with a gentle smile and turned to walk with Jean to the exit of the ship. Eren, also in disguise, joined them as Theia handed him one of her knives. "Just in case," she smiled again and Eren hesitantly touched her hand, but it suddenly disappeared from his sight. Instead, he found himself as if in another world, engulfed in a blue glowing sand.

"Eren..." he turned in terror behind the soft voice to look at Theia's calm face.

"Commander, where are we? What is going on?" He asked, fearfully surveying the strange place he found himself in, while she shook her head with a strange smile.

"Look at you, Eren. Stop pretending you're sorry. We live in a hell you created," his pupils widened in shock. "I know how it feels. The power, running through your veins. I also know that voice of urging to get more. Well, you lose yourself, you lose your humanity. Because once you cross the line, there's no going back. You will be lost in darkness, forever. The price of gaining true power is the suppression of all empathy and light within you. Instead, you will embrace the darkness that will change you for good..." Eren shook his head in despair at her terrifying prediction. "Well, eventually, the world will know... your name..." she whispered seriously.

"No! I don't want that! I just want it all to end but..." Theia smiled sweetly.

"I can change it. Well, you have to continue now," Eren frowned at her words.
