Scout regiment unit 18th September 844
"Thanks to you, we finally found enough evidence to get Lobov to the court," Theia met Erwin outside of the cantina so they walked together to his offices.
"What will happen to them?" She asked him, looking ahead.
"That depends on their decision," he answered her vaguely as always. Theia frowned and put her thumb nail between her lips, thinking. "Is something bothering you?" They stopped walking after Erwin's question, but Theia shook her head.
"I'm just wondering why Levi didn't kill me yesterday when he had the chance," Erwin seemed to think about that for a moment, too.
"Maybe he wanted you to tell me. Their plan could change after yesterday's circumstances," Erwin stated, but Theia kept frowning, her gaze focused in front of her.
"Maybe because I threatened him by sending them to the underground again. I think he cares about the well -being of those two more than we've thought," she added and continued walking. They said goodbye to each other in front of Erwin's office, where one of the last meetings was held regarding the upcoming expedition beyond the walls. Only the last two days remain and she will return to the Trost, to her jacket, to her life and she will be able to forget all of this.

For two days, she observed the trio just from a distance, and even then, she felt hateful looks directed at her. She was surprised how tame they were. They obediently followed orders and did not wander anywhere at night at all. The night before the expedition, Theia packed herself in her room for her departure. She prepared everything and went to check the carriage that was supposed to take her away. The night sky was covered with clouds and the air was getting cold with the coming winter. She shuddered and hurried back from the stables to the lodgings when she noticed Furlan coming out of the dining room and soon he eventually caught up with her. They walked side by side on a common path in silence when Theia stopped just before the entrance and turned to him. She looked into his eyes, in which she found only hidden pain.
"Furlan," she began but he turned away indicating no interest in having any conversation. "I don't care if you're mad at me, but please think properly about this expedition," she couldn't believe she said that. Furlan turned around in surprise, his eyebrows raised.
"Are you really going to pretend that you care about me? Now?" Theia rolled her eyes.
"Don't be sentimental. It was only a job on my part as well as yours," she poured salt into the wound and Furlan smiled sadly. He walked up to her and bent down a little to look into her eyes from the small distance he set now.
"Then be proud of yourself, because you completed your work perfectly," he told her in a low, somehow broken voice. "I'm not mad at you. Basically, you're right, it was and still is a work," Theia frowned slightly to his honest words. "I'm just sorry that maybe I really started to feel something though, but we'll probably never know," Furlan's voice was rough and low, piercing right through Theia's pounding heart. He completely took away her ability to speak or react in any way. She just stared, and her mind was pure chaos of thoughts now. Her shaking eyes raised to Furlan again, he was smiling. Damn. Smiling...so gently at her.
"Don't go there," she just said, not knowing the voice was hers. "Lie about something and don't go. You're in the military for such a short time to go beyond the walls and... can you even imagine how many people stayed there already?" She whispered but that sweet man just kept smiling.
"Maybe I don't look like it after making such an idiot of myself in front of you, but I am a tough bastard. I can take care of myself. And we will have Levi there, nothing can happen to us with him. If we stay here, we can't prove that we have the right to be here," Furlan finished his explanation and raised his arm to stroke Theia's head with his big, always warm palm. Theia just winced in emotions.
