"Hey..." she heard a pleasant, deep voice in the distance. "...you're heavy," she opened her eyes and blinked a little to realize that she was still in the hospital placed in the scouting unit compound. She lifted her head and the first thing she could see was a pair of bright Levi's eyes. She noticed that she was lying on his chest, so she carefully sat up and straightened her back. "That was probably more than a minute. How long did I sleep?" He also sat up and rubbed his face with his palm. Theia had to smile. "What?" He asked her annoyed.
"I've never seen you get up before. You slept for ten hours," she answered his question with amusement, reaching a hand into his hair to fix a few strands.
"Ten hours?! What happened to that guy?" He changed the subject immediately and Theia became serious.
"Since I told him that Bred was in Trost, he went there. He probably wanted to kidnap him again. Well, after he didn't find him, he disappeared," she said in a low voice and Levi frowned.
"You didn't go to get him?" He asked.
"No," she answered immediately, looking at his surprised face.
"Why...?" His voice sounded really confused.
"Because you'd wake up on alone and you surely come straight after me even though you're in a bad shape and start to complain again about how I'm going to get killed and that I don't care that you're worried about me, that's why!" She raised her voice and took a deep breath after a long sentence. Levi relaxed his tense muscles and stared ahead.
"I would never want you to neglect your work," he told her in a low voice and Theia rolled her eyes. She took a breath to say something to him but their conversation was interrupted by the loud opening of the door. In them stood the commander of the military garrison himself, Dot Pixis, in person. He walked towards the pair and Theia stood up to salute her superior.
"Commander," she addressed him, surprised by his presence.
"Theia, I came to tell you that Bred is dead," she broke off.
"How is that possible?" she wondered. "He couldn't have made it..." she continued musing aloud.
"Theia, would you like to tell me something?" Pixis raised his gray eyebrows in concern. She snapped out of her thoughts to glare at him
"And wouldn't you like to say something to me first?" Pixis sighed and sat down on the chair next to Levi's bed. He pulled out a bottle from his coat and offered it to him. He shook his head and drank himself. "A crazy masked guy pretending to be Sebastian flew through the window of the scout unit's base. After only a few minutes, he tried to kill us. He flew around the city in 3D ODM gear and a crossbow, fully loaded with poisoned arrows, which, by the way, is the equipment of a special unit. I'm really sorry sir, but I'm getting irritated with this situation!" Theia spluttered in his direction, almost in one breath. Pixis looked at Levi sitting in bed and let out a tired breath.
"The idea of a specialized unit was formed in my head during my work as a captain of a military garrison. And after I met one man, called Theodor Heerring, who had a passion for martial arts, I was convinced that having someone capable of dealing with serious cases on our boards would be priceless. And so, we became friends. Although he was a few years younger, he was energetic, full of vigor and the right fighting spirit. Together we proposed the creation of this specialized unit, but it was rejected. Many years have passed. Theodor became the captain and I became the commandant. We often secretly daydreamed over a glass of wine, as if our unit might appear. We even selected members from our councils if our dream will come true. After the great plague epidemic ten years ago, we were not only troubled by disease, but also by high crime, which no one could keep stable. And so, we met again and signed the contract to create this unit. Theodor was supposed to teach the cadets an effective way of fighting, which no one knows, and to provide weapons. I was in charge of administration, information and secrecy of the unit. We operated this way for many years and very successfully suppressed crime not only between the walls, but also underground. In silence, inconspicuously, without witnesses. Theodor was one of the five main people of this unit, but it seemed to me that he was getting further away from us every day. He kept developing new weapons, more and more brutal, often torturous. I talked to him and he promised to let it go. But one day, his laboratory exploded, causing a large part of the base to burn. Many people died and we thought Theodor was among them, but he survived his extensive injuries. He later admitted to me that he experimented with gunpowder," Pixis took a deep breath and Theia remembered the explosion of the wagon with her cadets in Shiganshina. "I immediately took away his rank and kicked him out of the army. He was lost for many years. I thought he was already dead," he finished his story and took another drink of alcohol.
