Chapter XVIII. Sunrice decision

DISTRKT TROST 5th August, year 844

"There are only two options. Somebody killed the children and hid bodies, or kidnapped them for other purposes," Levi watched in silent disbelief Theia, who calmly studied the extensive plans of the underground city, along with the commandant Pyxis.

"According to your interest, I judge that you are counting with the second option," Pyxis sat at the table, and his hands were laid on his lap.

"From my own experience I know that children and women have better usage than death. I can't imagine the reason why someone would kill unwanted orphans, but I find hundreds, why to keep them alive," the commandant raised his eyebrows after her speech.

"If someone started with one, they will continue with another. Children are more often used for prostitution. It's easy to kidnap children without a family," Theia nodded. "We should again show the power of a specialized unit underground. Theia, I'll give you a team. You will check the newly created gangs, whether other children have been lost and try to find information where they could be. So far I forbid any confrontation. You will report everything and I decide about our next steps, "

"Sir, with your permission, I would like to participate," Levi said.

"I appreciate your interest Mr. Ackerman. But I admit that only your presence in the secret consultation of a specialized unit is not very pleasing to me," Pyxis looked Theias direction and returned his eyes to the frowning Levi again. He could have noticed how Levi nervously bites his lips. "But I am worried that after we lose Bred, who was our underground expert, I will have no choice but to ask the commandant Shadis for an urgent favor. He owes us something at all," Theia smiled. He forgot to say that Bred became such an underground expert until he voluntarily remained under the promise of a sweet intoxication in the form of an opium paradise. She straightened to massage the stiff muscles on the neck. She did not even notice when Levi stood up from his place and was already at the table, watching the map of the underground city.

"There's a chance we won't find the kids anymore," she said disappointedly.

"We'll find them," Levi whispered. "There is a place where a Big Rat lived and this is where Lobov owned the brothel. We can start searching somewhere around, it can be our starting point. There was nothing around my former house, I would know about it," he reached for a pen, which belonged to the commandant and connected the lines of the place he mentioned with the place of entrance, where Theia was kidnapped a few months ago. "If we check these parts, we will certainly find something. The guards told me that no one found any bodies of children. That means that they took them away unnoticed, some corridor that is unknown," Theia leaned to the table so she could look better.

"We have to find what Rat and Lobov had in common. Or who would benefit most by destroying them," she thought aloud.

"I've learned something since I've been here. And that is, if someone high -ranking falls. There is no rat that would not eat up the remains. It's the same here and underground too," Theia's ideas were interrupted by the door that flew aloud and she rolled her eyes. The smoke came into the room which cut the tall figure of a brown-haired man.

"Sebastian, could you be so kind and stop smoking in the interior of the buildings?" The smell of cigarette smoke revealed him. He sat on the chair and his massive ax, which he put on the ground, just missed her hand. The handle leaned on her shoulder and she just licked her lips angrily. With one finger, she pushed the handle, leaning the ax on the Pyxis table. There was a heavy silence in the room. The old man took a breath of watching his subordinates in front of him.

"Any news from your training?" The commandant finally asked. Sebastian turned his head toward Levi, who watched his every movement. He swore himself that if any part of Sebastian's body or equipment would touch Theia again, he would put his ax to his ass.
