Military hospital, royal city of Mitras, May 10th, 00:30
The dry feeling in her mouth woke her up from a deep sleep at night. She blinked a few times to get used to the darkness and hissed again as the pain returned. She had never felt so bad before. She looked up at the table to see if there was a glass of water on it, but what she noticed was Levi, still sitting on the chair with his legs crossed. He slept. His head was slightly tilted to the side and he was holding a book between his fingers that had fallen on his lap. She smiled gently and carefully reached over to the table where she really found the glass of water. She took it in her hands and drank it, hypnotizing Levi's sleeping face with her gaze. She looked again at his knees, where his injured left arm rested. With all her might, she sat up and pulled her legs out of the bed. She straightened up and she could clearly feel every single scar on her burning skin. She didn't even know how many shots she got. She watched Levi's features. He frowned and she realized he wasn't sleeping peacefully. She really wanted to tell him everything. Mainly that their mothers were friends. She couldn't even imagine how difficult it must have been to live his whole life underground, without parents. She had stopped being surprised by his cold nature. She carefully placed her bare feet on the floor and stood up, clinging to the bed. Her hospital gown fell to her knees and she took her first step towards the sleeping Levi. She reached out to him with an incredible urge to touch him. Her fingertips were almost touching his face when he suddenly opened his eyes. She was scared and withdrew her hand immediately. They stared into each other's eyes for a few seconds until Levi frowned.
"What are you doing? You should be sleeping," he told her coldly.
"Sorry, I just wanted to..."
"If you wanted to talk to me, you should have woken me up," he interrupted her and put the book on the table next to him. He stood up and walked over to grab her by the shoulders and push her back to the bed. Theia sat down helplessly, resting her head on the pillow and letting Levi, pull the blanket to cover her.
"I'm cold," she whispered.
"And that's why you're standing barefoot on the floor," he retorted unpleasantly.
"Nothing's going to change, is it?" She looked away from him, concerned.
"What are you talking about again?" He asked her, frowning, and threw the blanket over her.
"You said those words to shut my mouth. Well, I'll probably never hear them again, right? Everything will go back to normal. I'm going to make fun of you and you're going to be rude to me and..." he knelt in front of her face and kissed her on the mouth, silencing her completely. He pulled back and looked into the surprised eyes.
"I love you. But please, you could keep your mouth shut sometimes. At least if they're going to speak such nonsense," he said in a calm voice and Theia wanted to hide under the blanket. He stood up and walked over to the medical equipment cabinet. He took the bandages from it and returned to her again. "If you don't sleep, I'll bandage your wounds, so sit down," Theia raised an eyebrow.
"Don't worry about it, the nurses will..."
"They will do it in the morning. It's disgusting to have a bloody bandage on body for so long. Sit down," he urged her again and Theia hesitantly sat down, turning her back to him. Levi sat down on the bed and helped Theia pull the nightgown over her head. She nervously followed all the objects in the room with her eyes, waiting, what would happen.
"They really didn't want to let you to see me just because of that order?" She asked to break the agonizing silence.
"No," he replied in a low voice.
"How many blows did I actually get?" he touched the bandages, which were soaked in blood, with his fingertips.
"Five," he answered her almost in a whisper. Painfully remembering each and every one of them. He found the end of the bandage and very carefully began to loosen it. She hissed in pain as pieces of fabric began to peel away from the dried blood. "Sorry," he apologized, not liking to cause her other suffering. His eyes traced five long gashes along the entire back. Two were deep, one of them even stitched. Her wounds were inflamed and badly recovering. He swallowed his distaste and gritted his teeth in a rush of hatred. Eager to support her, he raised his hand and stroked her shoulder. Theia felt the touch. But instead of being pleasant, the dirty memories of Lobov's hands on her body hit her head. She snapped her eyes open and pulled away from Levi's reach. She turned towards a surprised Levi, covering her bare chest with her hands. She looked at him in horor, covered by icy sweat, and her breath became incredibly fast.
