Chapter LIX. The longest night

The edge of the coastal city of Paradis Island August 5, 01:20, year 853

Burning pain all over his body and head woke him up, still during the night. It seemed to him that these few days would never end. He raised himself on his elbows and tried to sit up, cursing himself, rather badly, for how worthless he still felt. He let out a painful sigh as he noticed Theia, lying next to him in the grass, leaving him alone to sleep on the blankets. Levi reached out to her when he suddenly stopped and his eyes fell back on his injury, he pulled his hand back and reached out with his left to gently caress her cold shoulder. He pulled off the blanket to put it over her frail body and caressed it again because he wanted to get a better look at her shoulder. At first glance it looked deformed, she probably injured it after a fall, but she didn't complain at all. He stroked the blue sticking bone, thinking that he would probably be able to fix it. But in the morning, now he just wanted to watch her sleep peacefully. She must have been impossibly tired, because none of Levi's touches woke her up, while he gently stroked her hair and her face, which bore small scars. When, to his great surprise, she suddenly turned and threw her arm across his chest. He closed his eyelids in pain because she hit his injured ribs and immediately after that she threw her leg over him and pushed herself to his body, which she hugged very tightly. Those sudden touches really hurt him, but he didn't stop her in any way, he just lay down again and let himself be hugged, while she still rested her head on his shoulder. He carefully slid his arm under her body and hugged her, smiling that she must be dreaming of something nice, because her face looked really peaceful now. He hid her in his arms, tenderly kissed her hair and continued to let her rest, feeling her warm breaths on his chest. Finally, his mind calmed down enough to notice his surroundings and he wondered what they were going to do next. All he wanted was to have Kiara back, nothing else mattered to him more than the safety of his girls. He let out an irritated breath as he suddenly found himself in a different environment, with bright blue sand where a cold voice spoke to him, "My name is Eren Yeager..." he was shocked to find himself back in the forest and fearfully checked on Theia, who suddenly waked up, thanks to Eren's entrance to their minds.

"What the hell was that?" She asked, disoriented.

"Eren. I think he gained power over the founding titan and started the Rambling," Theia's eyes widened at Levi's words.

"Kiara..." she whispered terrified and sat up when she heard something big approaching them. She immediately reached for her blades and before the enemy could rush out of the trees, she jumped up and ran at the Cart titan's legs. She climbed onto its back and put the blade to Commander Magath's neck. The support titan stopped about a meter in front of Levi, who was looking coldly into their eyes. "Don't even move near to him," Theia hissed angrily and pressed her blade even harder, only to be forced back as the Jaw titan, who had been hiding until now, jumped at her. Theia jumped down in front of Levi with her blades in front of her.

"Hey, hey! You three, fighting against our commander is not a good idea!" A very tense situation was interrupted by a shout and the sound of footsteps of a larger group. Both Theia and Levi turned in shock at the voice.

"Hanje," Theia whispered with great relief. She couldn't help but notice the blindfold on her face and Harald by her side. "What are you all doing here?" She asked, somehow losing sight of the fact that she was facing two titans. But she wasn't the only one who surprisingly stopped being interested in the situation. The group included not only members of the survey corps, but also Annie and Rainer.

"Eren started Rambling, which also destroyed the crystal where Annie was hiding," Armin explained simply.

"Didn't you see Kiara?" Levi asked irritably, somewhat drawing attention to his person and condition.
