"You promised me that you wouldn't join the fight," Theia sat on the bed next to Levi, while bandaging his leg, again.
"If I hadn't intervened, Eren would have eaten that titan's brat," he defended himself, watching as she reached for the bowl of soup.
"Do they really rely on you that much?" She whispered sadly, but Levi stroked her hand.
"I'm fine," he assured her and let the first spoon of hot soup be put into his mouth. "You don't have to worry about me like that. I can even eat by myself,"
"I don't have many opportunities to take care of you, so don't stop me," she blew out the contents of the spoon and put it in his mouth again.
"Have you ever thought that there are titans in the walls?" He asked her seriously while she mixed the soup in a bowl. She shook her head.
"Well, I always had the impression that something was being hidden from us. But isn't the information about the titan in the wall top secret?" She raised her eyebrows and watched Levi's expression.
"No one forbade me to tell you," he replied, looking away as if to avoid her gaze. She returned the spoon to the empty bowl and placed it on the table. She sat right next to him and snuggled into his arms.
"How long has it been since we were home?" She asked with a sweet smile, closing her eyes to listen to the birdsong and the sound of water from the fountains in the nearby square.
"Half a year," Levi whispered and started playing with her fingers. "I'm sorry that even after you married me, I don't have the opportunity to fully devote myself to you,"
"We both have many responsibilities. We knew it when we got married," she entered his thoughts calmly.
"You deserve more," Theia shook her head, moving a finger over his mouth to silence his thoughts.
"You are off duty. You will be home for at least two weeks. Today we will rest and tomorrow we will clean the whole place. In the evening I will bake bread and we can go on a picnic. I need to gather some new herbs..." she suggested with a smile and Levi nodded.
"That sounds good," he caressed her soft hair and kissed her.
"Talk," she urged, stroking his chest with her fingers.
"About what,"
"About anything. About yourself. I know nothing about your previous life,"
"There is none. I'm just me," he replied bluntly. Not very willing to remember his past in the underground.
"What was your real reason for coming to the surface?" Levi thought for a moment.
"Who wouldn't want to live on the surface?"
"Levi..." ... "was it for them?"
"I wanted them to be happy. Furlan's mother died due to lack of daylight. I wished they lived long and free," he admitted.
"You wished to live long and freely with them,"
"They both got used to it too quickly. To the sun, warm environment and people. They liked to be scouts, they found a place where they felt they belonged to. For a brief moment, Furlan was able to convince me not to try to kill Erwin. But in the end we were forced to look for documents from him directly during the expedition," then he paused for a moment, as if he found something in his memory that he didn't want to remember. "He asked me if it was an order," Theia frowned in confusion.
"Father's order?" Levi shook his head.
"When I sent Furlan and Isabel to look for Flagon during that crazy downpour, I wanted to find the documents and kill Erwin. Furlan asked me if it was my order. I never commanded them anything, I never saw myself as their leader. I was so useless that he started laughing at me," he smiled at the memory of Furlan's laughter and closed his eyes. More and more often he was aware that his face was fading from his memory, but he could hear his laugh as if he was standing right next to him. "We separated and then I didn't make it back. It was one of my many bad decisions," he opened his eyes and looked away. Even after so many years, those memories brought him great suffering. Theia let out a loud breath, folded her hands behind her head and leaned against the wall.
