"So, is it really true?" Hannes was sadly sipping wine at the dining room.
"It's only temporary," Rico told him.
"Yes, temporarily. It's been four months already. Well, I'm not surprised at her. In Mitras, everything is so beautiful, clean and luxurious, in comparison with this place ...'
"Hannes, shut up already! You know very well that the captain promised us that she would come back as soon as she solves the murder case," Rico angrily interrupted him. Yes, it's been four months since Theia relocated to the Mitras. She even became an ambassador of the capital. She was now in charge of all the army's communication with Mitras.
"Where better to look at a wolf's tooth than right in the wolf's mouth," Hannes pointed out, taking another sip of his wine, playing with the first spring flower that the wind had blown through their open window.
The royal city of Mitras May 844
"I heard the scouts returned last week from their first expedition of the year," the tall gray man sat down at the gaming table and spread his cards in his hands. "I won the gamble. Thirty percent of them died there," he added with a smile.
"I guess I overestimated them," laughed the other one. "Apparently the titans were starving after the winter, so we at least sent them an appetizer. A few worthless, hungry bellies less," laughed the second, smaller but rounder man in his fifties. He placed a card in front of him and picked another from the pack.
"I already owe you half a million. Tomorrow, come with your wife and children to my castle in Stohess," the last man at the table, probably the youngest, intervened in the conversation. He also laid out a card and looked at the table. "Fuck," he cursed.
"I can't be happy with a win like that when you rob me of everything right away!" He looked around the corner of the table, where a pair of green eyes peeked out from behind the cards, smiling.
"But, gentlemen. You should focus on the game," she laid the cards on the table and ended the game. Everyone angrily threw the cards out of their hands and Theia pulled the wooden rings towards her. She stood up from the table and poured a glass of gin. She walked to the window, watching the beautiful flower garden. She smoothed out her long, light pink dress before she felt a presence behind her.
"The garden is the most beautiful at night," whispered in her ear the young man she had robbed of her winnings a moment ago. Theia smiled but avoided his touch.
"Do you think it's safe for a young lady like me to be out alone at night?" She asked him sweetly.
"And what if the young lady had company?" he suggested.
"And will you invite your wife too?" The man frowned and leaned in to her ear.
"Theia, why do you keep making it difficult for us?" He asked her in a gentle voice. She rolled her eyes.
"I'm not a thief Mr. Marybell. I'm not interested in something that someone else already owns. And to top it all, your family is too big and influential to afford a scandal," she smiled again.
"Please send my winnings to Trost to Commandant Pixis," she sipped and walked closer to the gaming table, ignoring Marybell. "My father also lost his whole life salary to him,"
"Really. Will someone tell me the reason why we feed this bunch of incapable people?" The fat minister took out another bottle of wine.
"Perhaps to bring you grapes from behind the walls to make the best wine you're holding in your hands right now?" The man frowned.
