The journey took longer like usual, because of the snow, but after a few hours they safely arrived to the Trost. As soon as Theia crossed the main gate, she unfastened her shoes and jumped off her horse, so that they could quickly head to the hospital, where they were informed that Bred had been transferred to the prison in Mitras two days ago. Theia angrily kicked the pillar in front of the entrance. Levi watched her with crossed arms.
"What we are going to do now? Are we going to the Mitras?" He asked but Theia shook her head.
"Not possible. The dark in the winter started sooner like in the summer and it's a dangerous and long journey in the snow," she put her fingernail to her lips again thoughtfully. "But Marcus's wife lives just beyond the walls of Rose. We could ask her if she doesn't know something,"
"You haven't done that yet?" Levi asked in surprise.
"No. She did not know that her husband was a member of a specialized unit. And after the mission was resolved, she was told he had disappeared. But nothing more," she answered him. She mounted her horse again and they vanished before anyone could notice them. After about half an hour, they arrived at the farm where the couple lived. They could already see from a distance that the place was neglected. They slowed down until they reached the gate, where they jumped down and tied the horses. Levi instinctively pulled her behind him and went in first. They passed the chickens running around the yard. Everywhere was a mess and desolation. Theia carefully knocked on the main door.
"Ms. Pattres, are you there?" She called. But she didn't get any answer. Therefore, they went inside together. A horrible smell immediately hit their noses. They walked on the creaking wooden floors towards the first door that Levi opened. A poorly furnished kitchen, a table with already dusted chairs, but no people. Theia turned and continued on. The smell was becoming more and more unbearable. She carefully pushed the door that probably led to the bedroom. The door slammed against the wall and Theia looked up with shaky eyes. She let out a desperate breath. The dead bodies of husband and wife were nailed to the wall, just above the bed. The bodies were deformed and their eyes were missing. Levi walked towards her and frowned at that sight.
"Who could do such a thing," Theia muttered, panting heavily. Her eyes were still following the bodies, in an advanced stage of decomposition.
"Someone who wants to scare you," he answered her.
"Levi, you know what? They're starting to do it well," her body trembled and she couldn't tear her eyes away from that horror view. Levi grabbed her by the hand and forcefully pulled her out of the house.
"We're going back to the Shigashina," he said forcefully and Theia nodded absently.
"That woman didn't do anything to anyone," she whispered in a shaky voice, stopping in the middle of the yard. Levi turned to her and saw that she was frozen to the ground. He walked back to her and grabbed both of her hands.
"Theia," he began, but she didn't respond.
"How dare they," she breathed into the silence.
"Theia, come back to me," he tried again.
"I will kill them. All of them," Levi breathed out and pulled her into his arms. He put his hand on her head.
"Calm down. You can kill whoever you want later, but now let's get back to the safety, okay?" He whispered into her hair, feeling her shiver. Once she calmed down at least a little, he helped her into the saddle and tied both of her legs. Together they arrived back in Trost, where she stopped the horse. "Why did you stop here?" He asked her annoyed.
"I don't want to go to the Shiganshina. It's getting dark," she answered his question and galloped into the military garrison compound, where she was greeted by one of the cadets.
