Y/n's steps are hesitant as she approaches Jungkook. The festival bustles around them, joyful and unknowing of the tension between the two who used to be soul friends.

Jungkook seems shocked at her approach and Y/n doesn't blame him. With the way things ended five years ago, with her leaving the house without any proper farewell, there might be a bit of resentment in him.

She hopes he does. She wants to feel something, anything that will make her feel alive.

He's grown over the years, more broader and buffer, if that was even possible. He fidgets a little and Y/n watches as Soojin, his fiancé squeezes his hand with hers in comfort.

That seems to ground him and he starts to walk toward her. They both slowly approach each other, the time they spent together years ago flooding back to them.

Y/n comes to a stop once she's close enough to the couple and she musters up the courage to pass them a small smile. Jungkook smiles back, a thousand unsaid words settling on their shoulders.

"Hey." Jungkook is the first one to break the silence, easily towering over both Y/n and Soojin.

"Hey." Y/n stares up at him, taking in his masculine features. He looks completely different from when he was twenty. But somehow, his round doe eyes remain the same.

Y/n's heart softens at the sight. At least some of them were not tainted by the lies and the betrayal. She turns her attention to the woman by his side, drinking in her beautiful features.

Soojin is the daughter of the Alpha of the neighbor clan and is two years younger than Jungkook. Y/n remembers him telling her they grew up playing together until Jungkook turned thirteen and he was sent to the Alpha Academy to train. Jungkook told her Soojin is the only sister to five protective brothers. She is autistic and an omega, extremely shy and anti-social. She only lets herself out of her shell when she's around people she trusts.

Right now, she remains quiet, even as Y/n passes her a small smile and nods her head in greeting. Soojin nods back and burrows herself to Jungkook's side, his giant shadows easily overwhelming her small physique.

Watching them, a sudden thought pops into Y/n's head. She doesn't know why she assumed they were still engaged. It's been five years. They might even be married. She trails her eyes over their hands and spots the matching rings on their ring fingers.

Her eyes slowly move up to Jungkook and she catches his gaze. He seems to read the curiosity on her face. "This is Soojin, my fiancé." He introduces the beauty at his side and then turns to her. "Soojin, this is Y/n."

Y/n smiles. "Hello, I've heard a lot about you."

Soojin's round eyes study the slightly older woman for a moment before she passes her a timid smile of her own. "I've heard about you too." Her voice is light when she speaks, her cheeks flushing red under Y/n's gaze.

Jungkook smiles down at her, his hand squeezing Soojin in silent encouragement. Y/n watch the two of them in wonder. Jungkook used to yearn for love and affection. And now, there is utter devotion and endearment in his eyes as he stares down at his fiancé.

From the thousand bricks weighing down Y/n's heart, one lifts itself at the sight of seeing her friend in love. A genuine, bigger smile lifts her lips this time, joy bubbling inside her chest. Love. That's what saved Jeon Jungkook from the misery of the last five years.

Happiness suits him. She hopes he stays like this forever.

"How have you been?" Jungkook asks after a moment.

Y/n instantly senses the wariness in his tone. Remembering how everything ended, Y/n doesn't blame the hesitation in his voice. She was heartbroken and out of her mind when she left the mountains five years ago. It's given that he thinks she is still upset about it.
