When the Heart Bleeds

Sarah was out in the gardens holding the little bundle of joy in her arms. The babe opened its eyes and its wee hand stuck out of the banket. The Druidess had never felt more at peace with herself than at this transcendent moment, and for a brief moment, she wished the babe belonged to her, and that she was finally a mother. Closing her eyes, she envisioned Camran wrapping his muscled arms around her and their babe, and placing a tender kiss on her cheeks. An overpowering feeling of loneliness engulfed her, and Sarah swallowed a lump in her throat, she knew now that that would never happen.

Camran pushed the red velvet curtain aside and looked out of the tall glass window. His heart melted when he saw Sarah holding the infant in her arms. A longing in his heart held him captive, and he stood in that position until Sarah lifted herself to her feet and walked back to the palace. Pulling himself back, the curtain fell back in its place and Camran walked away from the window. He didn't want Sarah to see him, it would only complicate things even more. Taking a deep inhalation of breath, the Druid opened the door and walked out into the hall just in time to hear a huge commotion downstairs.

"Get the hell out of my way!" Bruce roared, as he angrily pushed past the guards and marched into the Great Hall.

"Bruce!" Silas called from behind.

Bruce whirled around and faced Silas, "Where is she Silas!" He asked in a dangerously low tone of voice, one that would have scared the hell out of a normal human being, but Silas was not normal, he was a Druid, and as such he feared nothing and no one.

"She is here."

"How is she fairing?" his voice was hoarse, and sounded tortured.

"She is in mint condition." Silas said.

"Bruce?" Liandra called out from the end of the hall.

The Druid whirled around and faced his soulmate, he was overwhelmed and could not speak.

"I've missed you!" She whispered.

Her words soaked into his heart and it took a moment for him to respond. "Come here." He said in a broken voice, and stretched out his arm's.

Liandra ran across the Great hall and threw herself against Bruce's muscled chest. The warrior wrapped his arms around his soulmate tightly and whispered words of endearments in her ear.

William looked into Valerie's eyes and knew that he could never love another. She was his soulmate of that he was sure of, but how could he claim her, she was a commoner, his father would have his head on a silver platter!

Valerie noticed the change in his eyes and her heart sank. Her prince was having second thoughts, and at that moment Valerie realized what she had done. She had given herself to the Crown Prince of Scotland, he must think her a harlot!

The Prince pulled away from the Druidess and lifted himself off the bed. Grabbing his kilt off the ground, he wrapped it around his tapered waist. His muscles rippled with every move that he made, and he reminded Valerie of a Greek God. Pulling the ivory sheet over her body, she covered herself to hide the shame that engulfed her. She gave herself to someone that she hardly knew, and now she was full of regrets.

William hand reached under the bed and pulled out the wreath that he had made of beautiful wild flowers. "I made this for you," he said, "sit up so I can place it on your head."

"Tis beautiful." Valerie said as she pulled herself to a sitting position not realizing that the ivory sheet had slipped away.

Williams eyes dropped to her breasts, she had the most beautiful round and firm, small breast's he had ever seen. Lifting his eyes up to meet hers, he knew at that moment that he would fight his father for her hand in marriage. She was his wife in every sense of the word, but he needed to make it official.

The Druidess watched as the Prince placed the wreath on her head, "My queen." He said in a hoarse voice, before he dropped his head and brushed a kiss on Valerie's bare shoulder.

"No William, I am not your queen, and never will be." She said sadly, as she removed the wreath from her head, suddenly realizing the depth of what they had done. "we have made a huge mistake!"

The implication of her words hit him like a ton of bricks. He never thought for a second that she would not want to share a future with him. Valerie watched all the emotions play out in Williams eyes and wished that she knew exactly what he was thinking.

"You think this was all a mistake?"

"Yes, you are bound by ancient laws, and are slave to your crown. Your life belongs to Scotland and there is no room for me in it. No one will approve our union!"

"Then I can take you as my mistress, you can live in the palace with me and bare my children, and mayhap one day when the time is right, I can take you as my second wife!"

His words were like a knife in her heart. She was a fool to believe that he would abandon his crown for her. All the blood drained from her face when the realization of what she had done hit her. Scrambling to her feet, Valerie buttoned the front of her gown, and ran across the room.

"Valerie wait!" William called out after her, but the Druidess swung open the door and ran as fast as her feet could take her away from the cabin.
