The wind blasted against the glass windows, but the Macalisters with the help of the McCanes and the MacClouds placed the furs tightly around all the windows in Sterlingshire to keep the wind from creeping inside the castle.
Everyone enjoyed a day outdoors of fun and celebration on this blessed Christmas Day, until Cook rang the bell and they all came inside Sterlingshire to eat the delicious dinner she had cooked for them.
They all retired in the Great Hall and gathered around the huge fireplace enjoying a cup of tea and a variety of stuffed jelly scones. The children's laughter echoed around the castle as they played with their wooden toys joyfully, the ladies of the court shared stories of their past with each other, and the many hundreds of warriors, the ones that didn't leave for the holidays to be with their loved ones enjoyed a roll of the dice.
All the servants were given the entire evening off and were allowed to mingle with the noble, so they joined everyone else in the Great Hall and were very grateful to be a part of the holiday cheer.
The Macalister women all sat in their own corner, their main topic circled around Sarah and Alana.
"Tis so sad that on a beautiful day such as today, Sarah and Alana choose to stay all by themselves in their chambers!" Violet said, disappointment was evident in her voice.
"Aye tis is," agreed Sophia, "I hope everything will work out for the both of them."
"My daughter needs a wake up call," Amira joined in to say, "she knows not what mess she had created !"
"Tis not all her fault so don't go pointing fingers!" Violet was quick to come to Alana's defense, "tis not her fault that fate had her fall in love with two men!"
Silence fell in the Great Hall and all heads turned to Violet. "What?" Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she lowered her voice, "tis the truth, her life was already preplanned for her, how is that fair?"
"But I thought all our lives are preplanned, isn't everything written in the book of life!" Yasmin confused couldn't help but ask.
"Aye, But....." Nessa didn't get a chance to answer because there was a commotion at the doorway.
Everyone turned at the same time to watch Cameron enter Sterlingshire. His brothers jumped up and walked over to where he stood to greet him.
Alexander MacCloud who was standing outside the circle of his brothers laughed, "let Cameron breath, step aside and make room for him to pass, he is probably freezing his arse off, allow him space to go near the fire place!"
Everyone welcomed Cameron except the McCanes, they were still angry that he left their sister all alone and took to the sea. Cameron did not miss the stern way his brother in laws looked at him as if he was a bug on the wall they wanted to squash.
If they had known that he bedded every wench in every single port he docked at, they would have thrown a spear in his black heart. Cameron lived the life of a single man, and he enjoyed every second of it too.
She did not miss the way her husband Bruce looked at Cameron, and Liandra knew that he wanted to rip his throat out and that he was itching for a fight, so she cleverly placed her hand on Bruce's arm and caressed it softly.
