Luke nervously walked down the hall, trying to find the boy he had been crushing on since 8th grade.

His name is Michael Clifford, and Luke swore he was in love with him. They talked a lot in class, but that was only because Luke was very smart, and Michael liked to copy his work while being nice to the blonde boy.

Luke pushed up the nose of his big glasses, and ruffled his hair, trying to look his best. He gave himself a three hour pep talk last night just to get the courage to ask Michael to prom. It was the year that the girls ask the guys, but Luke just had to ask Michael. It was both of their senior years and Luke wanted to end it just right.

Luke never had anyone to go with to dances, not even friends to carpool with, so he wanted to actually know what it felt like to have a date.

Luke walked over to Michael, and tapped on his shoulder. Michael turned around, and lightly smiled. "Hey Luke," Michael said, and Luke had to look up at him. (Pretend Luke is 5'7)

"Hi Michael, I need to ask you something." Luke told him softly.

"Yeah, go ahead." Michael said, and his few friends turned their attention to Luke. Ashton and Calum were nice to Luke, they just didn't know him very well.

"W-Will you g-go to prom with me?" Luke asked, and felt his heart ache, and his hands begin to tremble.

Michael was surprised that Luke would ask him. Luke was very shy, and never talked to anyone besides Michael and the teacher in class.

Michael didn't realize he didn't answer when Luke started talking again. "I-It's just that I really l-like you, and I think it would be fun to have a date to prom, and-" Luke started, but with every word, his confidence weakened.

"Luke, I'm sorry, but no.." Michael whispered, and Luke looked up at him.

"Oh, do you already have a date?" Luke asked.

"No, it's just-"

"Oh.." Luke whispered, realizing Michael just didn't want to go with him.

"Luke, I'm sorry." Michael said, and Luke shook his head in understanding. "Don't apologize. I get it. It's okay," the blonde boy said, and lightly smiled before turning back around, and walking away.

Luke laughed at himself for even thinking Michael would say yes. He was just dreaming.

Luke felt his eyes fill up with tears on his walk home. It's not that he was extremely sad, but he was embarrassed. He's liked Michael for so long, and he just made a fool of himself in front of him.

Luke hates himself

-

Luke went to prom by himself anyway. He loved seeing people be happy with each other.

Once he got there, he got a water bottle, and sat at a table made for ten.

He lightly smiled as he saw a bunch of pre-drunk people on the dance floor having the time of their lives.

His mom told him he would regret it if he didn't come, but he wasn't believing that anymore.

He felt his eyes fill with tears at the familiar feeling of loneliness. He has spent his entire high school experience without anybody to share it with, and nobody to talk to. He hated seeing completely full tables around him of people laughing, and having fun.

Michael looked over from his table, and saw Luke sitting by himself. He looks beautiful to Michael, but he hated seeing the frown that covered Luke's face, accompanied by a single tear falling from his eye.

Michael didn't think he liked Luke like that, but he wants to be the one to make Luke smile. He just wants to see him smile, and be truly happy for once instead of a shy, quiet boy.

Michael heard a slow song come on, and saw a bunch of couples going to dance. He looked over at Luke, and saw him wipe his face.

Michael didn't know that all Luke wanted was for a boy to show up at his door with flowers, and to treat him like a princess for just one night. They didn't have to be boyfriends, but he just wanted to feel like he was worth somebody's time.

Michael furrowed his eyebrows when he saw Luke get up, and walk from the room quickly.

He followed, and ended up outside.

"Luke!" Michael called, and his heart broke when Luke turned around with bloodshot eyes. Michael quickly walked over to him, and Luke hid his face.

"Tell me what's wrong." Michael whispered, and Luke looked up at him.

"My mom told me to come tonight because I would have fun, but all that happened was I got reminded of how lonely and pathetic I am. I came to watch other people be happy, and wish I was them." Luke said, and Michael frowned.

"Follow me." He said, and they walked to Michael's car.

Once They got there, Michael started it, and plugged in his phone. He put on one of his playlists, and turned it up loud.

The first song was 'November Rain' by Guns n Roses.

He walked over to Luke, and smiled.

"Can I have this dance?" Michael asked, causing Luke to look up in shock.

"Michael you don't have to do that." Luke said, but he really really wanted to dance with Michael.

"I know, but I really want to." He said, taking Luke's hand in his. Luke quickly hugged Michael, and laid his head on his chest. Michael's arms wrapped around Luke, and they slowly moved to the music coming from the car.

"Thank you, Michael. You don't know how much this means to me." Luke whispered.

At the time, neither Michel or Luke knew that would be the start to a beautiful life together.
