Michael silently walked down the stairs and saw Luke waiting by the door. He had his suitcase by him, and his pink backpack on.
"There's nothing I can do to make you stay?"
Luke shook his head, and kept his back to Michael.
Luke's had enough with the neglect. He always felt lonely with Michael and he never got the attention he deserved. He would do his best to make Michael happy, but he would get yelled at, locked out of their room, forgotten about.
"Please don't go.." Michael whispered.
"I'm just not happy anymore." Luke whispered.
"I- I used to make you happy. I've done it before, I can't do it again." Michael said quickly, and Luke rolled his eyes.
"If you didn't make me feel worthless every single day we wouldn't even be in this situation, Michael." Luke whispered, and the older boy sighed, reaching up to touch the head of the teddy bear that stuck out of the top of Luke's back pack.
Michael gave it to him four months ago.
Michael handed Luke a piece of paper, and hugged him one last time as the uber pulled up in front of the house.
"I love you, Luke."
-
Luke looked down at the envelope Michael handed him, and saw who it was addressed to.
'To the man who loves Luke next'
The blonde boy didn't hesitate to open it. He needs to know what it says.
'Luke is special, and he needs to know that every day. Tell him he's beautiful. Make sure he knows you love him.
Take it from me, an idiot who already lost him. Don't let him feel lonely, and don't let him go one night without you beside him. Hold him close and kiss his forehead. There's nothing he likes more.
If he gets restless in his sleep, run your hand through his hair to calm him down. If he gets anxious, hold him tight, and give him his medicine. If he gets sad, let him cry it out. It makes him feel better. If he gets mad, let him talk. Sometimes he just needs you to know what's wrong.
If he ever says "you don't love me" don't be stupid and argue back. Reassure him that you love him. Tell him why you love him.
If he has a bad day, make him hot chocolate and let him wear your tshirt with his pink fuzzy socks. There's nothing he would rather do on days like this.
Luke is a princess. Treat him like one. If you're not going to treat him right, let someone else do it. He deserves the absolute best.
Don't be stupid like me. Luke is the best thing that will ever happen to you. Don't take him for granted, and make sure he always knows he's loved.
If you someday lose him like I did, give this letter to the next guy. Make that he knows how to take care of the most precious boy in the world.'
Luke wiped the tears that frantically fell from his face as he asked the uber driver to turn around.
Michael knows him better than he knows himself.
They can up doubtfully work it out.
They're Luke and Michael. They were made for each other.
