As Rosanna walked away, I couldn't help but think about what she'd said.
I bet you were never ostracized due to your powers.
Ostracized due to her powers? That explained her lack of confidence in her own abilities. But still... she must have gone through a lot of pain. Part of me felt awful and wanted to kill those that had hurt her and made her feel like an outsider. Magic was a gift and she must have gone through life thinking it was a curse because of the way she was treated.
As I walked back to the living area, I couldn't help but wonder if there was more to Rosanna. There certainly seemed to be and she was keeping her secrets close to her heart. Granted, so was I, but I had my reasons. I sighed and laid down on the couch before I crawled under the covers. She had been incredibly kind to me and her revelation tonight made me feel even worse about using her for my own personal gain.
But I was trying to do right by Espor. I was trying to save my home. That had to count for something... right? I just hoped that training would go smoothly.

I left a note for Rosanna on the counter the next morning, telling her to meet me in the woods. And when she arrived, I think my heart stopped momentarily. She wore a pair of tight yoga pants that hugged her legs and showed off her figure. For a shirt, she had on a loose tank top. Her gorgeous platinum blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail. I caught myself looking at her legs for a moment and quickly averted my eyes. I felt Farryn smack my arm.
"Stop checking her out," Farryn muttered. I nodded. Well at least we weren't practicing close combat today. It was then that I noticed that Polaris was with her. He didn't look happy to see me or Farryn.
"Morning," Rosanna greeted me and Farryn.
"Good morning," I replied as Farryn nodded at her in greeting. "Shall we get started?"
Rosanna nodded and I sat down. I gestured to the ground in front me.
"Sit down, Rosanna," I told her. She did as I said and sat down across from me. "One of the first lessons any magic user learns is control." I flicked my fingers and created a sphere of water in my hands to demonstrate. "Close your eyes and concentrate." She obeyed and closed her eyes. "Your magic is a part of you, an extension of your being. Reach down to your core and harness it."
A bright blue light surrounded her body as she inhaled and when she opened her eyes, they were glowing bright blue. It was like looking into an icy inferno. It was glorious. It showed me that she was incredibly powerful. I couldn't help but admire the beauty of her power for a few moments.
Then I felt the temperature around us drop quickly and stood up. I exhaled sharply and saw my breath. I looked at Rosanna and saw that she was struggling with her magic, but she managed to snap herself out of it. I crossed my arms, feeling the chill in the air.
