I woke up to a soft booming sound.

"Cyris...? What is that?" I asked, not wanting to move unless I had to. The soreness was setting in.

He stirred and turned over.

"What is what?" he asked drowsily.

"That sound," I replied. I moved to get out of bed, but when I tried to stand, my knees buckled. I grabbed on to the bedpost for support.

Cyris sat up and rubbed sleep from his eyes. He flashed me a smug grin before getting out of bed.

"Where do you think you're going?"

"To see what that sound is, but it appears that I can't walk," I replied. He'd done his job all too well.

"You asked me to," he said and smirked. "In any case, you can't go anywhere naked."

I rolled my eyes. "I was trying to get to the bathroom door to grab my robe and go check out the noise."

"Stay there," he told me.

He went to the bathroom and retrieved our bathrobes from behind the door. He insisted on helping me put mine on before he slid into his own. He grabbed slippers for us from the closet, put his on, and then handed me mine.

I slid my slippers on and tried to walk to the balcony doors, but my legs hurt, so I was a little wobbly. Cyris was there to steady me, and he opened the doors before he picked me up abruptly, holding me bridal style. He carried me out to the balcony, and we were surprised by the vibrant colors that painted the sky.

"Sidra set up fireworks?" Cyris asked.

"I guess so," I replied as I heard shouts of "Long live Prince Marcellus!" and "Long live Princess Catryn!" from the nearby beach. "Do you hear that?" I asked.

He set me down gently and we both walked to the railing. Well sort of. He helped me walk since I was still sore.

"Yeah, I do."

"Our people already love them, it seems," I noted. "I think that's them setting off fireworks on the public beach."

"Of course they do. When a new Royal is born, the Esporians take it seriously. Their loyalty to my lineage is deep. Always has been. My dad was a good man, a great father, and an even greater King," Cyris explained.

"You're a good King too, you know, and an amazing man. You care about our people. You fought your Court and Council to give equal rights to your Queen. You're going to be a great father to our children," I stated as I wrapped my arms around him.

"Thank you Vasia... You're an amazing Queen," he stated, and turned to me. He was smiling from ear to ear.

"Thank you, love."

"And you're going to be an amazing mother as well."

For a while we just stood there enjoying the fireworks, and the sight was beautiful. Bursts of pink, red, yellow, blue, and green filled the sky. I kissed Cyris' lips. This fireworks display was for our children, for the celebration of me and Cyris starting a family.

Eventually Cyris carried me back inside, and the two of us crawled into bed again. I curled up against Cyris' body and he wrapped his arms around me. I breathed in that lime and musk scent that I loved so much. After a while, I drifted off to sleep in each other's arms.

I woke up to the sound of soft sobbing. I glanced at the baby monitor, and realized it was coming from there. Cyris was fast asleep next to me so I decided to see what was the matter. I got up and thankfully the soreness was less, meaning I could walk now. I went over to the nursery and entered. I checked on my daughter, noticing that she was fast asleep in her crib. Then I turned my attention to my son. Marcellus was crying. I checked his diaper, noticing it was wet.

I picked up my son and brought him over to the changing table. I changed his diaper, then washed my hands in the sink there. I took him back over to his crib and laid him down, but he protested with some loud sobs. Marcellus was crying so loudly that Catryn began to stir.

"What's wrong little one?" I asked my son.

He reached for me and I knew what he wanted. I picked him up again, and went over to the rocking chair. I sat down, then started rocking him, and as I did it started to snow a little. But I wasn't using my magic... I glanced down and noticed Marcellus' eyes were glowing icy blue.

"Well you really are a little snowman, aren't you?" I asked softly. I was right, Marcellus had gotten my ice magic. He smiled at me and the snow continued to fall.

"Yes, you're very powerful, my little snowman," I told him with a smile. "But you need to sleep."

The snow vanished as Marcellus' eyes returned to their usual pale green. I rocked him soothingly and he yawned in my arms. I continued to rock him until his eyes started getting heavy, and eventually, my son fell asleep in my arms. I kissed my little snowman's head softly before I set him down in his crib. He finally stayed asleep, so I went back to the master suite and got into bed next to Cyris.

I sort of just gazed at him for a few moments... This man had given me everything. Solace, safety, sanctuary, love, acceptance, peace, and comfort. In return I'd given him two beautiful children, and the keys to my heart and soul. I curled up against my husband's body and drifted off to sleep once more in his arms.

This was my happy place. My paradise. I'd come so far. Going from a lost young woman that couldn't control her powers, to a strong Queen and protective mother. This was my life now, and I couldn't be more ready to start the next chapter.
